I'm installing the driver side cv. I believe I have the splines seated but once the cv is inserted about a half inch, I'm not able to rotate it. I've installed CVs a handful of times with never having this issue. When removing the broken CV, I was able to rotate it. The new cv is a rebuilt OEM from the delaer. Any tips would be appreciated.

are you saying that the axle will not spin when engaged with the differential splines? 1/2" doesn't seem like full engagement with the front differential but I do not know how much spline interface is typical for this application. is the CV joint housing close to the diff housing when it's as far in as it will go? pictures?

Try putting the broken cv back in and see if it spins

this is the second attempt with the new one. When the axle is just getting seated, it rotates fine...but once pounded in another quarter inch is when it seizes...I am afraid to keep pounding it at this point , but it might just be a spot where the c clip is seizing the axle.

Not sure i follow exactly the conditions you are saying, but check your C clip is not galled or bent. What i recall was fairly light force until it got to compressing the C clip then a good tap with a hammer and kid size crow bar in the notch got it. Are you saying the metal flange on the CV is touching the diff where it seals?

Double check you got anything out of the diff that you stuffed in to keep oil from dripping out.

Maybe stupid question but the other end of the CV is not already in the wheel front axel hub right?

First look and see if the new CV has any mark is made by pounding it in?
And also see if the diameters are the same on old and new.

I don’t like pounding the CV in.
Put the CV in and push it in until it stops.
Then pull it 3/4 of the way out, then SHOVE it in fast.
It usually goes in a lot easier this way.

Probably something simple and is embareassed about it......we've all been there.

Note: Rebuilt and remanufactured - big difference between the 2. Make sure you are buying remanufactured.

About 15 min after I posted it was fixed..
Unless OP wants to share I will say this is a good bet, but I might still go 50% odds forgot something in the diff used to block oil leak.

Edit: naw won’t rotate, so I would give 10% odds jammed something in diff, 90% other end was in the front wheel axle hub.
