    @TnShooter

Sorry brother; yeah dirty parts viewed on a phone screen made it look like the clip at the end of a cv axle shaft

Like you said, it's a good thing the old one came out with the old cv axle as this thread could've been a whole lot different

Wait until you wheel, then you're pulling them every few months for torn boots and other crap :bananadead:

    No problem.
I thought I had a spare seal so I could get OP a picture of “where the spring sits in the seal”. Just for reference.

But I don’t have a spare front seal.
I have one for the rear.

OP, just be happy it’s not a rear seal leaking. They suck. At least for me they do. I hate drum brakes and I hate disconnecting brake lines.

I am not the brightessed bulb in the chandelier, but parts are parts and need to be put in their proper spots. I have taken enough stuff apart to know :anonymous:

Oh I have a shit ton of those parts, and don't even own the vehicles anymore.

Same with an offset seal driver for an 80 series Land Cruiser, rear extended brake line for a Tacoma, rear coils for a 4Runner and other odds and ends :bananadead:

Nice thing is the brand new OEM constant tension clamps can come in handy along with all the OEM vacuum lines that can be used in place of other vacuum lines.

I got plenty of new parts.
I’m the type that buys “new parts” when doing a job.
When I did my ECGS bushing, I bout all new parts. “Just in case”.
Seals, cotter pins, a whole new CV axle……everything.

All the old parts still looked good. So I stuck them back in.
Now I got “new parts” still sitting here. Taking up space.
But I know as soon as I give them away, I’ll need them.

Never want to be stuck with the old part, that needs replaced and not have a new one on hand.:(
New parts in the package can be returned;)

Here is where I'd look to see if the spring is missing.... wheel bearing seal, the spring keeps the lip seal tight. If it is missing I could see water getting in there and washing the grease out of your wheel bearing. They can easily pop out while wrestling with the knuckle and CV....

I think based on previous posters and the new CV axle leak that it's the front differential CV axle seal retention spring.
