I think I'm gonna just get the bushing and probably buy the tool also.

Thats what I would do. I haven’t seen anyone report a bad bushing yet.

It seems different people use different oils.
Some guys run 75w-90 synthetic everything.
    Others stick to Toyota Specs.
    @Larzzzz

I’ve seen some guys say that ECGS recommends 85w-140.
I can’t find anything where they specifically say to use this weight oil for the bushing.
They do however, recommend it in all THEIR differentials.
    Conclusion Notes:
    • ECGS RECOMMENDS LUCAS DINO 85W140 & LUCAS 80W90 FOR EXTREME COLD

You know there’s a TSB on the bearing... calls for 2hours the parts and a shot of gear oil.

Has the TSB bearing fixed anyone’s issue? I quit reading about it after putting the ECGS bushing in... but I recall the TSB bearing (at least initially) being no better than the one that was replaced.

There is indeed a blind hole bearing puller. I found it on Amazon. I couldn't justify the ecgs tool for that one thing. This kit wasn't much more.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0798GS916?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

As for which gear oil. I honestly don't remember what's in there now. I swapped several brands when I was dealing with a noisy rear wheel bearing.

Just saw the price on that kit. I paid around 60 when I bought it.

Not sure if a slide will work. I used the ecgs tool and it felt like it wasn’t going to come out as I was ratcheting the bolt down and then when it broke loose it popped loud. I thought I screwed it up but then it just slid out. But I reckon others have succeeded in it with a slide but it’s definitely pressed in there well!

Did it come out pretty easy with the blind hole puller?

I used Toyotas updated bearing , no problems so far, have about 1 year on it, 15,000 miles , 2 road trips . I tried a blind bearing puller , then a 4 jaw type puller one that u tighten up a rod and it expands then attach a slide hammer but neither of those 2 removed it, might of loosened up. I ended up using a series of small files to noch the side of the bearing to weaken it then hammer and small cabinet tip screw driver to collapse it then was able to pull out. Looking back on it I didn't have the proper size 4 jaw puller , if I had could of been different results. Don't forget to put something in the open hole so debris doesn't get in the diff. Good luck keep us posted.

I did the ECGS bushing using regular pullers (I have a couple of OTC kits like you show) and not their custom tool.

Used a beam and legs to pull with some finesse rather caveman approach with a slide hammer. I used 2 jaws and the only hitch I remember was keeping everything aligned to just grab the bearing cage and not catch or score the diff housing.

Getting the bushing in was kind of tough, not much space and you need to make sure it stays square.

From what I remember I don't think their tools are absolutely needed if you have pullers and drivers. If you have money burning a hole they'd probably make it easier, especially driving the new bushing in.

The only thing that comes to mind is that my cheap Harbor Freight seal driver kit didn't have an adapter that fit the seal so that was a PITA. I had to cobble one together from PVC and junk I had in the garage.

The ecgs one? Gonna be tough to sell when the members here have an agreement to pass them along for free after they're done using it.

Buy the tool. It makes the job easier. Got a torque wrench that can do 173 ft lbs? 35mm socket?

I would just go ahead and get the puller from ECGS it’s cheap and you won’t have to fight with anything. I kept mine just because I keep all the tools I purchase but if you don’t want yours after you could always just send it out to TW I’m sure someone would appreciate it. Have you compared the two bearings that you have? What’s the difference between them? Once you pull yours out you should be able to tell what one to put back in.

The slide hammer was useless in this application. The bridge on the other hand, made it easy.
Doooooon't set the outer seal deeper than just past flush..... Unless you want to do it again. Drive the seal to deep and it's gonna leak bad.
