Hey guys I have 2000 Tacoma 4x4 ext cab. I've recently replaced the front passenger side wheel bearing and cv axle. Since I've had the cv axle pop out of the hub 3 times. The snap ring on the shaft will still be in the groove and the axle won't pull out of the hub but pops out enough the axle flops in the hub. All 3 times it stayed tight attached inside the tranny. I've scratch my head over this for awhile now. Anyone ever had any dealings with this occurring? Maybe the bearing inside the hub wasn't seated properly? Any input would be greatly appreciated

That's wierd.. Is it the right size axle? I've replaced mine and there's pretty much no way it would ever pop out from what I can tell.

Isn't there an axle nut attaching the axle to the hub? Or am I not reading this right?

Yeah same size that I took out. It doesn't make sense to me. I could understand the other side coming out if it wasn't all the way in. Last time I changed the inner seal and it stayed tight inside the hub about 2 weeks and now it has done it again. There's about an inch between the inner seal and the outter cv joint housing. The axle just flops inside the hub

It didn't have one when I took it apart. It has manual locking hubs. From everything I have seen the Manual locking hubs doesn't have the axle nut but I could be wrong?

Yes. There is a bolt and washer right in the center of the shaft, and a circlip that holds the shaft in place.

Yeah it has the bolt and washer in the center and the circlip in the groove on the axle. It doesn't make sense to me how it's pulling out enough the cv will flop inside the hub

Yep exactly like that! The circlip will still be in the groove and the axle won't pull completely out of the hub but it pulls out enough to just flop it around inside the hub

Yeah. I've actually taken the drive side apart to make sure i didn't lose something and leave something out. I've gotten very good at getting cone washers out lol

I don't know man. Maybe some pics would help us?
That washer and circlip is what holds the shaft in place.
Do you have a brass bushing behind that washer?

Okay I haven't torn it apart again yet. It's on the agenda tomorrow, I'm losing time in the woods hunting. Yeah I have that brass bushing. It didn't have the brass bushing that goes on the inside where the cv starts in the hub. I may not be wording that correctly

I could see a little play but there's about an inch between the inner seal and the outter cv joint housing

An inch gap? Are you sure it's the right CV assembly for your truck?
I wonder if you maybe got one for a Tundra.
That just doesn't sound right. Might have to pull the other side just to measure for length and be sure.
