CV Axle Question.

    So when I lifted my truck I apparently put a small pin hole in my right cv boot. I was able to seal it up using a hot paper clip to melt the rubble. Only problem is I seem to be gitting a vibration (sounds like a soft groan and has a very slight vibration) from that side. So here is my question, How much is too much grease loss for our axles? How sensitive are they to grease loss?

    I drove it about 200-300 miles with the pin hole. As far as how much came out, I am not really sure but there was about a 1/2 inch blob on the LCA and about a 1/4 inch blob on the sway bar link, and some more sprayed around the wheel well.

    I was considering using a needle attachment to my grease gun to put some new grease on and then sealing up the new hole. Just wondering if the axle needs grease or if it is just getting used to the lift.

    Lift was a 6112 kit set at 2.5 inches and ICON AAL in the back.

    Thoughts?

    The sound you're hearing is probably your driver side differential needle bearing. It probably shows up around 30 - 45 mph?? When you hear it, shift into 4x4 (on road is fine for this). If the noise goes away, it's the bearing.

    I drove with mine like that for over 10K miles and the bearing looked new when I replaced it with the ECGS bushing - your next mod.

    Yep its the needle bearing. Thanks for the info... Now lets see if Toyota will fix it under warranty.

    There's a TSB for it, but they replace it with the same part. I'd just do the ECGS bushing. People are having the TSB bearing make the same noise shortly after having it done.

    Just an idea, dont know if your dealer would go for it. Perhaps you could get the upgraded bushing and have the dealer install it under the tsb repair.
