Why do 3rd gen OR/Pro get a larger rear diff? Why not put the larger rear diff on SR5 or Sport? Usually cost/weight/fuel economy are the reasons.

The $2k RCV axles for 3rd gen use double offset inner joints to get more travel than stock. After I installed them, I noticed there's a bit more drag when spinning the wheel. The double-offset inner joint use large spherical balls instead of needle bearings on a tripod. The extra drag may cost 0.1 mpg, enough for a large OEM struggling with the CAFE boondoggle to avoid it when they can.

If they're anything like the old Colorados, it will be hard to do all that seeing as those engines ate heads and timing chains like a snack..which GM felt was normal, by the way

Long travel with longer CV's is the safest bet right now on the 4th gens.

I wonder how many aftermarket companies have broken CV's during R&D? (This one appears to be mid travel)

I imagine they probably broke them and realized that they need a differential drop. And that is why icon requires one.

The CV itself isnt snapping its just not long enough when you lift it X height. Its sliding out. 4th gen control arms look to be wider than 3rd gens. So that probably why 3rd and 2nd gen you can lift without failure up to probably 3.5 or so inches.

I'm pretty sure the dealer noted in the computer the reason for the warranty rejection. So GL trying another dealer. iCON for sure isn't in the business of giving away money either.

I'd try an Indy mechanic shops. Might save a grand in labor.

So based on this, the binding occurs in the transfer case over a signficant distance from driving on a surface that does not permit any slipping ? No binding occurs from the difference in rotation of tires on the same axle.

    Seems logically.

However how could the OP create enough binding in the transfer case if only traveling 15' backing out of a parking spot causing any type of driveline bind to pop the front left axle? It would seem that the axle cv joint did not pop due to drive line bind based on the situation presented. correct? Would have popped out due to a (too short) CV axle resulting from a combination of a full lock wheel turn and the install of overly tall lift without the front diff drop installed?

    rear diff lock on OR/Pro?
