Does anyone have a link to a write up or video on how to replace a 2000 cv with manual hubs? Ive been searching for hours and cant find anything.

An axle for auto and manual hubs are different right?

Also what brand do yall recommend? I was thinking I would be fine picking one up from o'reilly.

OEM axles are the best. Aftermarket axles are 75% as good. I'm guessing your boots are ripped? Replacing the boot would be, and has been my choice.

Also, here is a thread that shows you how to remove the axle.

Most folks prefer the Napa (new) axles for their decent quality. Still not as good as OEM, but better than what you'll get at other auto parts stores.

It's also waaaay easier to pop a new CV on than it is to replace the boots. Been there done that

I'm guessing that your boot was ripped and the grease escaped and wore the joint out.

If it was me, in would find a used oem axle, if your can't wait, get a Napa axle.

So you think a junkyard axle that might have 150000 miles on it is better than a brand new one(thats not OEM)?

And if I do go napa, is there a huge difference in remanufactured and new quality wise?

As long as the boot doesnt rip theyl often outlive the rest of the truck.

If your truck is lifted at all you wheel the truck oem is a better choice.

That being said you can get the parts store ones with lifetime warranty and change them out for free. Not sure how much longer it is with manual hubs but after youve done it before its a 20 minute job.

Not that I'm aware of, however; the reman only carry a 3 year warranty. The "new" ones carry a lifetime warranty.

Like stated above. Assuming the boots have not been ripped and filled with crap, yea, they are better. Besides, the odds are they where unlocked and just sitting under the truck just riding along.

A 20 minute job is what makes it worth it to me. I've replaced lots of boots on my OEM axles, and it's a really annoying job. especially removing the C clip underneath the tulip. What would otherwise be a 40 minute job from removing the tire to putting it back on, then turns into a 2 hour job with lots of cussing.

To me, buying a lifetime warranty unit (from Napa) is a luxury. Pop old one off pop the new one on. If it actually breaks, well that's what trail spares are for. That being said, I have heard lot of compliments on the NAPA CVs, fwiw. Even that the boots don't give lifted guys any problems, but that's intermittent anecdotal evidence.

Since OP is running manual hubs, it would make sense in this situation to simply reboot, since boot tearing on a manual hub truck happens very rarely. But for anyone with ADD who constantly has to deal with CV boot tears being the bane of the truck's existence, go with Napa shit.

Do yall think there is a noticeable difference in an oreilly and napa CV?

yes, when the oreilly axle snaps on you and leaves you stranded :D:rofl::boink:

j/k. oreilly was supposed to be a competitor to napa, quality-wise. so id hope their products are ok. i would still say go with napa though

greasing isnt that necessary as the surfaces its going into should be coated in oil but its always a good idea to just smear some gear oil on the surfaces going into the diff.

Did you replace the boots or get a whole new axle?
