Tore a book on the driver side of my 2006 Tacoma, truck has 270k so figure might as well change the entire axles while instead of tearing it all down for a boot, not sure if my mind is made up yet. Looked around and auto zone sells them for 80 a piece, made by duralast. Any idea if they are any good? Or are there better quality ones for around that price?

Not nearly as good as oem but if you are nice to it you would be ok. If you buy the auto zone one I would put a new boot on the old on for a spare, they are eazy to do.

So probably just pull the one and put a new boot on it? I don't off-road I use my truck as my daily.

You can get an OEM boot kit for 40 bucks, includes all the supplies except tools and rags.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a torn passenger side. Nothing seems wrong with the axle but my mechanic advised me to get a new one.. CVJ axle seems to be the way to go. They rebuild oem cv axles. $99 after you send back old axle. They also make the correct boot for lifted trucks so they're not as prone to tear. Like you, just trying to decided if I want to get the boot or the whole axle. Doesn't seem like too hard of a job other than getting axle lined up and put back in..

I don't believe mine need replaced, but I don't want to pull it all back out soon and wish I had done it when it was out. I think I might just try and do the boot. Idk I have to think about it.
