Hey everyone. Been lurking a long time and first time posting. I tried searching around but where I'm at right now it's REALLY hard to use Internet. So I apologize if the answer is right there.

I've got a 2017 OR and just noticed that my drivers CV has a nice tear in it and has been shooting grease all over. I just got to my families ranch after driving about 1000 miles. My current set up is a little under 3" of lift with TC UCAs, stock lowers and sitting on 285/70/17 with 17x9 wheels.

I honestly don't know how it tore like that. A month ago it was fine but in that time I did light offroading (fireroads) but did hit some debris that blew onto the road from who knows where. But as a once over things looked okay.

I was thinking maybe they are at too much of an angle from the suspension and just tore? Or more than likely something caught hold of it?

But now I ain't going anywhere until I replace it. Where can I get a replacement that isn't going to break the bank and is there a good "how to" for these 3rd gen? Hopefully these pics load. The other side is completely fine.

Replace the boot. Will cost less than $50. Do not go get a parts store axle.

A shop installed the lift. I'm also worried what damage may have been caused by driving with that torn open.

Taking an axle apart sucks. Buy a new one and save time.

This is true, but all of the part store replacement / reman axles are significantly inferior to the Toyota OEM axles. As much as it will suck, its best for him to pull it apart and put a new boot on.

That's a problem...I hate getting my hands dirty. Jk. Nah I don't care how dirty, as long as it's done right.

How many miles?? They're covered under the 60k powertrain warranty, I just had one replaced for free because it was leaking.

But the aftermarket suspension might deny the warranty claim :/

That's exactly what I was thinking. It just passed the 25k mark.

Worth asking, worst they can do is say no. SDHQ sells CV boots that are a bit tougher and cost less than the OEM ones.

Its worth a shot. I think parts and labor are like $500, if you have your stock suspension you can swap it back in and the axle would almost certainly be covered, but might not be worth all the hassle of swapping :/

I do have all my old oem stuff, but yeah that might be a little too intensive. After the military my body and mind aren't what they used too. So I'd probably mess something up more some way some how.
But I'm sure I could do this cv.

I'll give them a call when they open. If they are tougher boots maybe it'd be worth it to get an extra pair if hands and do the other side? Especially if I start up more technical trails again?

I'm freaking myself out over the angles now..picturing flexing and having them rip all over again. Are those SDHQ boots tough enough to keep my worries at bay?
