First off I did search and there were some threads in the first gen forum, but thought it could be a good thread for anyone to be posting CV issues. I’ll go first:

So guys... How screwed am I? Never had any CV issues before

And yes the angle is extreme, taking care of that this weekend (miscommunication on amount of lift/preload, dropping it down now that I have time) Hopefully not past the point of no return?

A new cv can be picked up from yukon or others for less than 100$ or an oem spec replacement from napa etc. Or the dealer. Fairly inexpensive.
Not too difficult to swap if your mechanically inclined. Just need the proper sovket for cv hub nut.

You think I need a full CV axle or just boot? Like I said I’m new to this. Mechanically inclined just have no idea what I’m doing.
Also is this ok to drive on for a few days? I hear no odd noises and no vibes...

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I'd go with an entire new CV just for the ease of it. Then you can put a new boot on that one and have a spare.

Driving on it depends on distance/speed/luck. I've seen grenading early, or a week later.

More than I wanted, I think right around 3”. My buddy misunderstood me and cranked the C/Os too high. 2.9” of preload on Fox 2.5s (other members are running that much and having no issues that I’ve seen)

You can drive it like that, only issues is that it will get grease everywhere the more it leaks and you'll run more of a chance of getting dirt in the boot which will force you to have to get a new CV axle (which you should do anyway at this point). But as long as you're in 2wd you'll be okay to drive it.

When my CV axle blew apart completely I was fine driving in 2wd, but if I put in in 4wd I would get a god-awful CLUNKCLUNKCLUNKCLUNCK...

Better to just replace the axle (~$80 for a Napa aftermarket one, either go Napa or go with OEM...don't go with AutoZone or O'Reilly's). They are easy to replace and take maybe an hour to do on your first time. Just need basic tools plus a 35mm socket for the axle nut and a torque wrench.

So... I had this problem a few days after i bought the truck since i immediately lifted it. I took it back to the dealership and they they swapped out both of my Axles free of charge. its part of the drive train is it not? either way mine got swapped out. cheers.

They might say the lift caused it and not cover under warranty. But worth a shot.

I have a few dealers nearby so I will ask. I’m sure it’s caused by the lift but it ripped after only 500 miles so it seems crazy.

I killed one of mine already, swapped it with the autozone axle for $100 and have not had a problem since. Going to get my oem rebuilt Incase I have a problem again.

Can you take another picture but with the camera on the ground (horizontal) to see the angle and CV position?
I have 3" lift all around and mine does NOT look like that.

How much lift are you running? I am swapping suspension to 886s and Bilstein 5100s (no weight yet but adding sliders bumper winch and skids soon). Hopefully that’ll bring me a little lower. Like I said I have 2.9” of preload on Fox 2.5 which should be 3” of lift according to Fox. Didn’t mean to go that high but there was a miscommunication and more threads were exposed than I wanted.

Do not replace it with a auto store axle.

    Oem axles are far superior

Replacing the boot is simple and MUCH cheaper...
