CV Boot tear advice

And by "new Heavy duty" do you mean OEM from the dealership?

 

Either OEM from dealership, or the set I looked at, at Napa. They claimed they are new, heavy duty off road CV axles, didn't have time to look into them though

 

I need to spend more time researching. Don't feel like dropping hundreds on OEM, and my local Yota dealership parts manager cant figure out how to order me a HVAC light bulb, let alone a new axle

 

I hear that! I need to figure out what to do in the next couple days as I need these replaced before my trip. I've read so many posts on TW about what to buy & why etc. It gets confusing after a while. I'm not wanting to spend a lot of money per axle either but, if it's the only assurance I can get to make sure I'm receiving a quality product...then so be it I guess...


What?! Sounds like your local dealership is a bit incompetent....

They charge $333.14 + Tax & Shipping per Axle.

 

They have some out there for WAY cheaper! Like $100 or less, but I don't know how they compare to OEM

 

I know... from what I've been reading on TW, they don't compare to OEM and are poor quality. Again, I don't know from experience or first hand...only from what others have posted.

 

As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow the "Whats the best 3" lift?" questions are always eventually followed by "Crap, what do I do about my torn CV boot?" questions.

Sorry to go off topic OP. Just scratchin' my head at the strange desire for 3" lifts on IFS trucks that arent anywhere designed that way. Maybe there is a chemical in the upholstery or carpeting of our Tacos that makes people fixate on 3" like zombies after brains.

 

You do have a valid point sir. I bought it with a 3" lift, but as soon as UPS shows up, the 5100s are coming off and being replaced with a 6" BDS, so no more boot issues

just bought a set of these for my 1st gen. These are badass! GL dude

 

My CV joint is already too far gone to save, plus those boot replacements are typically shitty. I need a new shaft, may as well do both, and upgrade my bearings as well.

 

I talked to Bill, and he reccomened the Advanced Auto parts CV shaft assembly, cheaper and lifetime warrenty, so I went with those, if they go bad again I will think about a better, more expensive option.

As soon as I ditch the 3" lift I shouldn't have this problem again

 

Well here they are... Maybe do it this weekend, depends if I can get help or not.

 

I'm curious what made him suggest those axle.

Did he give you a reason?
