Hmmm, mechanic had to keep my truck an extra 2 hours after closing the first time I got the boots replaced (10hrs) before the right one tore again, and then he replaced that one for free. Idk can I argue it should only take him 2 hrs to swap the boot?

Yea I picked the lift. Everywhere I read said should be fine and no one’s had problems once the boot mod was done.

Who are all these people? Everyone knows that 2" is about the limit of lifts on our trucks aside from a DB kit.. There is little to no discussion of the boot mod outside a few minority posts. Again if you need this mod, then your setup is wrong.

In the 6 years on this forum, every mention of 3" or higher is immediately met with criticism. Moreover, I can't recall any real discussions over the boot mod within the 3rd gen section

If it's at Toyota, probably no room to argue as they should be billing based on Toyota's instructions on how to do said maintenance/repair as it shows how long it's supposed to take. Folks feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that. Do dealerships charge the expected rate assigned by Toyota, or actual?

I'm in agreeance with @JoeCOVA . Second gen's seem to be 2.5 inches max, and 3 inches is just asking for trouble or bad suspension action.

3.5” lift in front leaves you with with no downtravel, it must ride pretty shitty. I can even feel reduced downtravel with my 2” lift.

with Toyota IFS 2” lift is pretty much max unless you wanna cut into your frame and do a drop bracket lift. Even then, you won’t gain much clearance.

I coulda sworn I read a few posts about that but it’s entirely possible I clicked into 1st/2nd gen sections.

so to confirm, drop the front, and boot mod is useless? That’s the best course of action in your opinion?

defiantly address the overall lift setup (issues) if you want to escape the Boot-a-month club.
I know it looks cool to all your friends, but they are not paying the bills.

I'm lifted 2.7". The boot stretch mod kept the OEM CV boots in good shape for about two years until I upgraded to RCV axles. The OEM CV axles were good enough to resell to someone else in my off-road club as a spare.

Best course of action is to adjust the coilovers to a lower ride height until you get the planned armor installed.

Do you have experience with the Napa cv's? I've seen people say they're significantly weaker than oem. If that hasn't been you're experience, I'd love you save the cash, lol.

I’ve been rather active on here for several years and This is the first I’ve heard of the CV boot mod. I’m skeptical it would have any effect on CV boot longevity. CV boots do tear under normal use. You might have just been unlucky. I agree with the others that you might be lifted too high in the front. there are rather depressing limits on how much you can change the ride height of an IFS.

Measure your hub to fender distance at right height and fool droop and report back.

Apparently the “CV boot mod” involves stretching the CV boot. It’s not clear how this is supposed to reduce the chance of a tear.
