It reduces the friction between the pleats, thus reducing the chance they prematurely wear out or get thin spots that are more prone to splitting.

I’ve heard that claim before, but it sounds like snake oil to me. It’s not like the different pleats are rotating at different speeds such that there is significant friction between them.

Makes sense to me, but yeah no clue if it really works. I've seen boots that are obviously worn where they rub, though, so maybe?? I just don't run that kind of lift to have to worry about it.

I think there is the same (or greater) chance that CV boot mod is the root cause of the tears.

^If you stretch the boot excessively, then it can tear when the suspension goes into full droop. There is a happy medium where you can stretch the boot a little just so the ridges don't rub against each other, but that wouldn't be enough to accommodate the severe lift the OP is doing.

I have a Napa CV in the passenger side, I think maybe had it 2-3 years now with several thousand miles offroad and several trips through Moab on 35s. Still holding up. My only complaint is it the center shaft rusted so I painted it. Would definitely recommend putting a coat of paint on it before install.

Yup, drop the front and just run the factory boot setup. Can look into options if you are still tearing boots up.

Perfect, my passenger boot puked all its grease out through a pinhole almost a year ago. Guess I'll just buy a cheapo.
