CV Joint running top of balljoint?

    Have my Terrcoma in the shop and I'm being told the front end rubbing noise is the edge of the axle rubbing the top of the balljoint?? Anyone experience this?

    It's less Tacoma and more mod
    I can't imagine how the two could ever contact each other unless the CV has separated from over extension.

    Perhaps the outer boot of the axle, but certainly not the axle itself, under normal conditions. And it would be the LBJ mount, not the ball joint itself because the ball joint is underneath the mount.

    Would love to see a pic of what they are telling you.

    So that thin metal flange on the axle is touching the spindle/knuckle not the ball joint.

    What is the shops proposal. How do they suggest you fix it.

    The boot looks new on that axle. Is the axle original?

    They showed me and it looked like the rusted top of the joint itself...

    The boot and axle are original...

    I'm sure it hasn't always touched like that. Something has changed to make them closer together. Either that or there is an object (a rock) in between causing the contact.

    Other thoughts:

    If the wheel bearing has play in it, it would allow the axle to get closer to the spindle mount.

    If the spindle is bent, it might put those two surfaces closer together.

    If the Lowe ball joint is bad and separating it probably can effect that s0ace...does the lower have play in it?

    the LBJ is UNDER the spindle. there is no contact with it from the CV.

    yours looks like you had something caught (as previously stated) and it ground down and left scrape marks on the ring of the CV
