So I'm thinking of picking up a 4runner front diff with 2 like new CVs for $400 shipped or so. Have to work out all details with seller.

I was researching and turns out I do believe I can use the CVs. The 4runner is an 04 with 8" clamshell. My truck is a 2017.

Anyways here's the link to why I ask if it's stronger.

Not sure what the part number is for the 17s. But @stronghammer and I just replaced our CVs a few weeks ago and my 08 T4R and his 11 Taco had the exact same part number for our CVs. Actually bought the same exact CVs

'tis correct. not sure the exact years and changes that were made between body styles. our vehicles just happen to be the same "generations" that match up, may not be the same for an 04 and a 17 :notsure:. That's beyond my current knowledge-base.
