I am definitely in for an RTT! I am thinking a Mt. Bachelor. Possibly a Mt. Shasta but can someone explain the benefits that justify a $400 difference for the same size tent? I understand the annex is bigger. Is the main benefit that it encloses the ladder?

    Thanks

That's why I wan the Shasta. Didn't see where you are from (EDIT: I see you are in Wyoming) but I live on the Westside of Oregon and it rains every month but August and September usually. Between hunting, fishing, snow camping and summer camping that enclosed area is the main selling point. Allows for an enclosed area to change dry off whatever before climbing up into your tent.

If you camp in the winter I hear the wind and snow can be brutal out there. I wouldn't want to climb up into bed covered in snow getting my sleeping bag wet. Ask MTgirl she has the Bachelor.

Yes, the biggest benefit of having the overhang would be in bad weather. I got an ice water bath last year when I stepped onto the ladder of my tent and all of the water that had pooled on the rainfly dumped down the back of my shirt  NOT FUN
The annex on the bachelor would be comfortable to have one person sleep in, crowded with two. Whereas the annex on the Shasta would be more than comfortable for two people

Well, I'm convinced. I'm going with a Cascadia.

I guess I will have to weigh my options and see if the price difference is worth it. I am curious though why there is a $400 difference between the Bachelor and Shasta whereas the Hood vs the Rainier is only $200. That just doesn't jive.

    Thanks

And thanks to Spoon and MTgirl. That was helpful.

Yep, I'm Cascadia now too. I was watching both GB threads and considering the Tepui too but given that Cascadia is offering a larger discount (really nice thought to get families out camping together by the way) and have the stronger frames now, I'm sold, I'll be participating in this group buy for certain now. It's now just a matter of looking at the new models and determining which tent and which accessories that I need. I go back and forth between using the group buy to get a much larger tent for what would have been the regular price on a smaller model or sticking with the smaller model and getting my tent for a lot less than I otherwise would have (even if I do have to pay shipping).

I'm guessing its because the annex for the bachelor used to be only 3 walls and the annex for the shasta, hood and rainier are 4 walls and floor. That would make the difference in materials between the shasta and bachelor greater than the difference between the hood and rainier.
Now that the bachelor annex is 4 walls and a floor just like the others the pricing may change in the future? :notsure:

That seems legit. Either way at 30% off the Shasta comes out to $976.50:D. And I frequently visit Bend (only a 3 hour drive for me)so I don't have to pay shipping.

I can tell ya that the shasta is worth the overhang. Love it.

Your in pindale so if you wanna see one hit up Marc, he is in riverton. He let ya see a shasta first hand and he actually had the bachelor for a while too so could tell you first hand the difference and what he likes/doesn't like.

You should check into the Wy BS thread too man

    Good question!

And the reason our pricing is this way we have felt it is important to have an entry level tent that is affordable. We have often reviewed and considered raising the price of the Mt. Bachelor several times, and most likely we will be doing it this year.

    Thank you,

    Bobby

I'm curious how many current RTT owners have an annex but rarely or never use it. I can see a very real benefit to the Shasta over the Bachelor if I was always using the annex but I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll mostly be using my RTT by myself (neither my wife or my kids are big on camping, though I continue to try to encourage them). For the difference in price, I'm having a hard time convincing myself that I need or want the Shasta for the overhang when in fact, I'll probably only rarely use the annex. I'd be curious about other folks' thoughts, convince me that I'm correct or that I'm dead wrong.

Thank you! We have had them on all our bigger models, hood, rainier etc.
Just needed to make the smaller ones more sturdy and take the weight.
    Have a great day!

I use mine alot when I take my family out 2 or more days(wife and 3 daughters). I do like the feature of the overhang for the weather and wind. By myself I just want a place to sleep...

Thanks for the thoughts. Frankly, even in those times when the family does tag along, I'll likely be packing up at least once a day so we can drive into town or go sightseeing because my tent will be on the roof of my vehicle, rather than attached to a trailer (at least for the time being) so I'm actually leaning towards the Bachelor without the overhang. I'm going to try to pin my wife down on her desires and then I'll look at the new models before making a final decision. I'm very excited by the whole prospect and already have my first camping trip planned for the new CVT tent.

Having the ladder enclosed and the extra space is what sold my girlfriend. She has said she would be willing to camp in the rain and less than stellar weather if we had that. Plus I have a 90lb dog that will need a place to sleep.

Obviously I don't have it yet so we will see how long that lasts but it might be a good bargaining chip to try and encourage your kids and wife.
