Yea if you want the annex to be fully functional..i think its like 6'-5' 9'' is the minimum height.

Many things are included in the GB. Not sure about those particular items..

Was ordering a Mt Ranier and then started to think. Right now I'm going to put the tent rooftop, then going to move it to an adventure trailer. Gotta build it first. Should I go with the version without the overhang (Mt. Hood)? Concerned it would be in the way when lower to the ground.

    Thoughts?

Personally I think the overhang is critical. In the rain for example it provides more coverage.

Also if you are worried about height... in the Annex you can have a table with gear, cooler, dog bed, wtv..... all in the "lower ceiling" part. Then you still have space under the overhang to take your boots off, gear and get up the ladder.

What RigidTaco said. I was at CVT over the weekend looking at the Mt Shasta and the over hang is definitely needed. I have a pup that will be sleeping in there plus whatever clothing/gear etc I want in the tent out of the Elements. I live in Oregon so camping in the rain is just normal. Until I get a canopy, I will start with the tent at bed height. Now I wont put the annex on with it this low but it will still provide an overhang to get out of the rain and dress down. Dog will sleep in truck until tent is up high enough for annex. There are a lot of builds where people have mounts that raise up from their trailers so once you are at camp the tent can be at a good height. I would suggest looking at those options.

Also if I remember correctly you don't HAVE to install the annex*

How do you plan to mount the tent on the truck once have the canopy?

I am thinking about building a rack that mounts to the bed rails under the canopy and then have some tubing bent to go around the canopy and then weld in some cross members. I have yakima rails and a rack the canopy now, but not sure I trust the canopy to hold the weight of 2 people. Also with offroading, i think it will put too much stress on the canopy with the tent up top.

No, the overhang is attached to the main tent. Might make for an interesting design feature though...to be able to have a detachable overhang...hmmm...BOBBY! :angrygirl: Put that on your R & D list

    EDIT - you edited

How does the overhang affect center of gravity. At 6'2 I expect to fill most of the tent. Any issues sleeping or putting gear too far out over the side? Or is the ladder load bearing?

I will just use the Yakima rails that you can get installed. I had my Yakima rack on the canopy of my ranger and had it loaded with a lot. Spare tire, axe, shovel, and action packers with food/gear and military surplus ammo cans with ammo. Never had issues. I like easy to moderate trails, forest service roads and hunting roads. I wont be going thru rock gardens or anything crazy. You can look at contractor/lumber racks as they would be very strong. If I don't go canopy I will go with some type of PackRack like AllPro has. Still trying to figure storage logistics before I spend the money on a canopy/bed rack.

I had a Leer 100(forgot the initials but it was their entry level with sliding windows) and I was told by leer not to have more than 200lbs when vehicle was in motion. I see tons of CVT's on canopies around Portland. You will be fine.

I was hoping that it would be fine on the canopy rack. My tacoma has a ARE canopy and it actually looks like it is reinforced on the top. The leer that is on my GMC 2500 is probably the same as the one you had, entry level type canopy. It would be nice to be able to move the tent from one vehicle to the other depending on my needs to trips. I will call ARE and see what they say about weight capacity on their canopy.

I just placed the order on mine. Mt Shasta, 79" awning, and Booty-mat.

Anyone else wanting to group up for shipping to central Alabama (About 4 hours from Atlanta, FYI) please post here and let me know. Once we get the 4 together I will contact Bobby for the total estimate on shipping, then get with the other 3 people.

Good call. They will give you the dynamic weight and as long as it is around 200lbs you are good. Now if you are gonna go jumping with some LT guys I wouldn't suggest it. But trails and general forest service roads will be fine.

I don't think to "HAVE" to have 4 people to combine shipping. There is value in only having 2 or 3. That's what we found. Right now we've only got two, and it has significantly reduced my shipping.

Talking about about camper shells you have me second guessing now. I either plan on mounting my mt. shasta over the cab on a front runner rack or over my snugtop rebel sportsmans package shell with a front runner rack. Just not sure yet. I think the sportsmans package camper shell can hold 500 pounds on top. But the place I got it from i think said the same as previous posts. No more than 200 pounds while driving. Any way im gonna try it and see what happens. I think ill be fine with the reinforced roof on the shell. Does anybody have or know of anyone having rtts on a camper shell?

This is the Mt hood on my leer 100XQ with the integrated Thule rail system.
Been cross country with this setup and wheeled for days with zero issues.
