personally, it just feels like better quality. there's small features the CVT has that my Tepui didn't. For example, i hate the telescopic ladder on the Tepui's, but I like the ladder style on the CVT's. The rails on my Tepui for the mounts, used to get kinks in them too. Just from normal use. Made it hard to remove the hardware when storing. The biggest reason that made me want to go CVT was the owner, Bobby. Absolutely outstanding customer service. Quick shipping also. Case and point, a few weeks ago, I broke the zipper on the cover. Literally, it sheared in half. Took a pic and sent it to Bobby at almost 7pm at night asking the best place I can order a replacement, or get it fixed. He replied within 5 minutes asking for my address and a few days later I received a brand new insert, with the zipper for my cover.

Interesting. You are one of the rare few that prefers the sliding ladder over the Telescoping ladder. I've lost track of all the ladders I've sold to CVT owners that didn't like the sliding style. Also not sure what you may have been doing differently with your Tepui tent but you are literally the only person I've heard of that was getting "kinks" in the rails. Particularly odd since the rails between the two brands are identical. :dunno:

    To the OP:
I've said in another thread that good customer service is a lost art and finding a place with truly excellent customer service is worth paying a bit extra for IMO regardless of what company it is. So find the brand that has the best quality, the features you want, that has a proven history and the best customer experience. New cheaper cookie cutter brands pop up all the time. Who knows how long they'll survive?

There are some differences between brands. All I will say is that Tepui is well known for it's excellent quality and even better customer service. Tepui has also won a number of industry awards for quality and innovation. That's one of the best things about Tepui is that they are always innovating rather than riding someone else's wave. Tepui was the first to develop the Ruggedized models as one example. There is a reason that Tepui is the #1 selling brand of roof top tent. Also, ALL Tepui tents have the Sky windows in case you were not aware.

I'm happy to answer any questions that anyone has. You're welcome to PM me anytime, and even call my cell if you prefer. 801-710-8110.

I'm not knocking Tepui, just stating my honest feedback having owned the two.

I hated on my Tepui ladder how the rubber feet would constantly fall off. Probably one of the biggest reasons why I prefer the CVT ladder. My telescopic ladder on my Tepui also didn't like to stay in place. I had to ratchet strap the tent down via the hooks screwed into the bottom of it (and constantly tighten the screws so they wouldn't fall out) to try and get it to stay.

Perhaps it was because I had an Ayer, or maybe it was just a flawed tent that I got out of the batch, but the rails on my Mt. Shasta as bigger and thicker (that's what she said), and I have yet to have any mounts get stuck in the rails.

Bobby has provided outstanding customer service. I'm not saying you don't, as I know many members are quite happy with the tents they have purchased from you and the customer service you've provided them. I'm relaying my experiences to the OP, since he asked...

OP I'm not a salesman for either brand. I'm a consumer, and I have had better experiences with my CVT and plan to only run it until my needs change...

I'm not questioning your experience. If that's what happened and how you felt about it, that's what it is. Just saying you had some very unique issues.

Yep and you've stated that multiple times in various threads and even in PM to me. Which I get my experiences don't help you sell Tepui tents, but I'll continue to share my comparison when people ask, especially since they're dropping a grand or two on a tent..

I feel like making the BEST DAM RTT in the WORLD, one that's in freaking destructible... Hurricane, Tornado, Blizzard, and Tsunami proof.. With a solar operated bed mat vibrator for after long days and for fun nights (like those coin hotel beds from back in the day, but better).. A slide instead of a ladder, with a inflatable lounge pool at the bottom with bubble jets to slide into within the annex, a pulley rope system you just grab onto and it pulls your ass up into the tent.. A wood stove and a nice area to make blueberry muffins, pancakes, and bacon in the morning.

If I do it, I'll do a group buy.

Keep sharing. Feedback is always welcome. Your experience is still unusual and I think that's worth pointing out.

I have the tepui with the big skylights. Non ruggedized. I love it. It's been through big rain. Freezing temps. And major wind. Of course good weather too.

I got it mainly because of the skylights. So if you have that option in whichever tent you get, get that option. It's really nice having those open.

I will say one thing about the ladder - the feet do fall off sometimes. But I like how the telescoping ladder works over the other type.

Get ready to never go ground camping again though. Having a RTT is so much better than the ground.

Also also I need to rig up some sort of restroom in mine. There is nothing worse than getting up to take a leak in the middle of the night. I've almost fallen out of mine a couple times.

How do guys load or unload the RTT on your truck? I've been looking at CVT and Tepui, and the size that I need are in the high150 lbs range. Not something I can ask the wife to help load up on top of the camper shell.

I've been eyeing the James Baroud Nomad 160 for a long time, which weighs around 90 lbs and gives a more generous sleeping area. However, none of their reps here in the US wants to return my calls or emails, or can give me a straight answer as to when they'll have one in stock.

That's a huge red flag and a great reason to keep looking elsewhere. I don't think that either of the other 2 big RTT company's mentioned on here numerous times would conduct their business in that manor

I realize this is a conversation about these 2 brands, but I am also in the market and the Treeline tents look super nice. Has anyone seen these in person or tried one out?
