Aight guys....thanks for all the input. First of all, I need to update my Bio, I now have a 2018 TRD Pro. Second, what I did was assume that the transmission I had was CVT, solely based on searches I did trying to find out exactly what kind of transmission I had, knowing that it wasn't just a traditional automatic. After finding my owner's manual, I pretty much found the answer to my question. On page 204, it lists the shift ranges and their functions. The verbatim quote from the manual says, You can choose from 6 levels of engine braking force. So, this seems to be ok that I use the S position to downshift and slow down. Lastly, I'm old enough that shop class was offered when I was in high school. I took all business courses instead, and that has certainly paid dividends over the years. While I do wish I knew more about vehicles and all their functions, I'm gracious for all you folks in here! Thanks again for all the comments...even the snarky ones. :help:

I have a degree in Liberal Studies, I took my share of business courses. Bored me to tears but I'm glad it worked-out for you!

Being a licensed Union Electrician, well that has paid for a lot of nice things

Good on you though for (eventually) reading the manual; a lot of Taco owners seem averse to doing that.
