I’m about to head out with my buddy Mike on an adventure. We learned a small farming community the next county over has a pretty decent local history Museum. We’re trying to find some data on a couple of old brickyards and a sawmill ruins that are in the woods around there. The brick yards were a big enough industry they supplied most of the millions of bricks used in the Civil War forts down here. We have the general location they should be in but need some more details before we go traipsing through the woods.

My Monday was pretty long too, but productive.

The museum we went to had a nice collection of local history stuff from the community including a plat map of the sawmill we are looking for. The plat map showed the railroad tracks and 2 existing roads so we were able to get a good bearing on where to start looking. We were happy to see it was one of the locations we had already guessed at and we’re going to check, this just sped up the process.

After walking down the tracks and a bit of bushwhacking we got lucky. A well was marked on the map next to the mill office. From some pictures from back in 2014 we knew the well was still flowing from a stand pipe. As we searched through the woods we begin to hear flowing water so we zeroed in on the sound until we found this

It was starting to get late in the afternoon so I dropped a waypoint at this location and we worked our way back to the truck. We'll get back here next week if the weather holds and do some more exploring and pictures.
