My 2016 Tacoma developed a slight hum/vibration recently. I've done quite a bit of lurking through past threads and am 99.9% certain it is the front drivers side diff bearing. It seems like this was a pretty well documented problem on the 2nd gen trucks. My question is has anyone else run into this issue on their 3rd Gen trucks? Sorry if I missed a thread about this.

Well, as I suspected the noise was coming from a failed drivers side needle bearing in the front differential. This was a fairly well known issue with the 2nd gen 4wd trucks. Dealer is replacing the whole front diff under warranty.

Hmm sounds like a one off issue. I think you're the first person I've seen, on here at least, have that exact issue on the 3rd gen so far. At least they are taking care of you.

Is your truck completely stock, no lift, aftermarket shocks and OEM tires?

I honestly thought about it. I figured as long as I'm under warranty I'll let Toyota pay for parts.

Not stock. Bilstein 5100s in all four corners, 1" block in the rear, SPC uppers and a diff drop. Sitting on 275/70/r17s all installed at a reputable 4x4 shop. The only time my lift came up during my conversation with the dealer was when I asked to verify they would be reinstalling my diff spacers.

What were the 5100s set to, 1.75 or 2.5?

Kudos to the dealer for not immediately dismissing you due to a lift. Wow.

Just lifted mine with pretty much the same setup. The vibration i feel is not constant. More like on 1second/ off 2seconds. Goes away when put into 4wd. Also was almost unnoticable after 5 minutes of driving. I feel in in the gas and brake pedal or floorboard. Does this sound similar? Most noticable between 35and 40mph.

Yes, that describes exactly the same issue I was having. I had my front diff replaced under warranty and that fixed it for about 100 miles. Im starting to notice it again though. Not as bad and it goes away after a couple minutes of driving. Before my diff was replaced I could feel it in the gas peddle and it annoyed the shit out of me. I will probably go with the ECGS bushing to replace the needle bearing at this point.
