Only reason I wish I went Velcro all around is because I have a friend here with an old 4Runner who did this and it works really well. Obviously need the industrial stuff though.

like when I slammed into the rock with my bumper? And yeah manual trans, I dont like to make things to easy on myself lol. Doesn’t help I’ve been out of practice. The winch scare was me stalling out obviously.

honestly I think I am going to see how whoever I hire to make the back door for the cap does and see if they can stitch those up if they aren’t too expensive.

Yea I've been there before. I know the struggle. That's why I put in my crawlbox. Was tired of playing the three pedal dance in the rocks

Yeah crawl box is on my list just to make situations like that a little bit safer. I like a challenge but I also don't like worrying about flopping.

Haha I think it wouldn't have worked that well on that long of a climb  still my favorite part about our cliffhanger run.

Threads been dead, been focusing on time with the fam, riding, and doing some reorganization in the garage.

Got 25 miles on some of the most fun single track I have been on in Jersey so far:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Going to give the bike some love soon with some signals on order.

Also bought some overhead garage storage that will help me get some things off the shop floor but keep my camping stuff accessible and out of the basement. Install has been slow because of a crazy week with the kiddo, but progressing. Since I have the access to the garage attic open I'll knock out replacing two of the burnt out LED's.

I also have been keeping an eye out for a cheap vertical cabinet to keep my riding gear in that can protect it from all the grinding dust and spray paints that float in the air in the garage.

Also thinking my compressor is on it's way out and I am not sure I can justify a 220 60 gal when I have gotten away with my HF 21 gallon for 5 years now that I got for free from Kevin years ago. For almost all things I have seen 5 scfm max for things I need to do. I don't plan on sand blasting or running a plasma table so anything that puts out 5 scfm at 90 should be able to keep up with the majority of my shop work. Buttt part of me is like well what if you EVENTUALLY plan on those things, but realistically I don't think it would happen at my current home.

The other thing to take into account is how many typical compressor tools are going battery.

As far as the truck goes, it's pretty much ready to rock for the next trip minus the locker actuator. Think I might dig into that after my riding trip on the 23rd.

Your truck might have the power to start going again and not require the starter the whole way. I just give mine a few minute break after cranking for a minute and let things cool down some.

@cynicalrider any way you want to part with the speaker harness plugs (door side pigtails)
    from your half doors?

I was looking at this guy so I can at least get the capacity I had + a little more. Even with the high CFM, I would blow through 5 gallons really quick in automotive use.

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-3...tical-Electric-Air-Compressor-C304H/312074155

I am not sure yet, I think I was potentially going to try to save the speakers if I could, but haven't been able to think much about any of it yet. Just shoved the doors in the basement and set my eyes on other projects lol

Things that I NEED done before the next trip:

    Fix locker actuator

Fix stripped bolts in frame for t case skids

Re-glue mirror in bed control box

    Nice to have:

New exhaust mount from Dirt Skum to better center the exhaust in the bezel

    AC pulley

Decided to de-prioritize the steering rack leak since it's far less bad than I thought.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright making this it's own post. I took a deep dive into the goals for the truck, and the things I want to improve. This list is always changing/ being improved upon, completed or added to.

As always green was just completed, BOLD is priority/realistic. Anything previously green gets deleted (though I still need to update the build specs lol). Of course this is all for my sanity's sake.

    Maintenance:

Armor up rear diff, fix plug, or weld plug permanently shut and replace two studs with bolts to drain

    Plugs

    Wires

Carrier Bearing (Might wait on this, still feels tight)

Paint rear bumper, drill holes out bigger to accept 3/4" shackles

Rebuild the spare alternator (need rebuild kit)

    Rebuild spare cv's

Swap CV with the torn boot

    Address cracked Exhaust

Power steering rack, filter and system bleed

    New OEM ac tensioner pulley

    Interior Mods:

Platform in back with taller rear locking storage, a place Mac can be raised up on while the fridge stays at the same height)

    Lit up cup holders

Tablet lighting solution using Raspberry Pi

    Switch reconfiguration

Put in cubby under the fridge:

Change of clothes, canned foods with long expirations, fire starter kit, emergency blanket, MRE's. Stuff that is worst case scenario survival shit.

    Exterior Storage Mods:

Build a dual swing out tire carrier. The one swing out will contain the 35" tire, and a fold down table. The left side will hold the high lift and chain saw and will also have a fold down table. The goal is to make everything more accessible without needing to unload the truck. - Potentially decommissioning this idea.

Get a back door stitched up to attach to current rack.

Figure out a ramp mount solution when hauling the bike. Maybe prinsu rack on cab?

Potentially add a roof rack above the cab to hold traction pads/a plano case that contains recovery gear. The jury is still out on this concept. I would like to avoid adding anymore weight that high if I can. See ramp mount point. ^

    Performance upgrades:

ABS controller delete/LSPV delete/manual valve install and complete fluid flush

Dual battery setup, one battery in current location, the other under the bed. This will be the house battery that the fridge, and all lighting accessories will run on.

Crawl box: I need lower gears to really take the truck to the next level crawling wise.

    Build/get built beefier drive shafts

Ebay dorkel: Getting water in the air box last trip was an eye opener, getting water in the airbox again means it's priority.

Custom Alcans or Deavers: Once I get the average weight of the rear figured out as a typical always on rolling weight, I want leaves to be able to hold the weight of my normal everyday load. Airbags will be the interim solution.

    Lighting Mods:

3 additional floods to rock lights (one facing from the rear bumper to the diff, and two near the front facing down near the bumpers, goal is to eliminate the current dead spots)

    Hood lights on pin switch

Two Toyota rock lights as additional turn signals

    Misc Exterior/ Camp Mods:

    Redline Hood struts

Heat exchanger in engine bay for warm showers

Fiberglass fenders and bedsides (this will eliminate some of the body glamage I have gathered over the years)

    Half doors

    New bedside decals

Print up decals of trails from Moab, put on cab

Full LT or 3-link is way to far out of reach currently

    Bike mod list currently:

    New LED front signals
    Oil change
    Stock clutch springs

    Black side plastics
    New graphics
    Suspension Tune

I know a lot of people delete ABS and LSPV at the same time, but you don't need to... why delete ABS also?

At this point the controller is just taking up space in my engine bay. All sensors have been removed and blocked off, fuse has been out for 4+ years. One less thing to complicate the system really. So eventually the thought process was to do both at the same time and then get a really good flush and bleed of the whole system. I have been skating by for years just bleeding whatever component I replaced.

Fwiw I put in a manual brake bias controller and I could never get it to stop pissing fluid and ripped it out. I kept the LSPV and it works great with rear disc brakes.

It was a wildwood, silver color I believe. No matter what I did it leaked, sold it and the truck stops fine without it. I can lock the rears with the fj80 axle and 37s FWIW. I ziptied the LSPV up and will lower it if I am going to be driving it with the bed empty far (rare).

My opinion: if you are planning on getting an fj80 axle in the future I would just rip the ABS stuff out and leave the LSPV. It's so easy how that axle bolts right into the stock Tacoma brake system. I'm sure if you wanted to you could even get the system to work with the 80 axle.

Honestly I am not sure my LSPV is even working properly. Last I saw it it was rusty, rotted and seized.

Still haven't touched the truck much but I did use it a bunch.

Decided to give my shop some love and finally create some more organization. This is going to pave the way to start my welding table project I have had material for for over 2 years. I added overhead storage above the one bay so I can get a bunch of my camping stuff off the floor and up there. This also lets me keep all the camping stuff in the garage and not bring it back and forth from the basement.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

It filled up quickly, but I expected it to.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Next up was hunting down a cabinet I can keep my riding gear in that won't get covered in grinding dust. Found these lockers about an hour away for $50 a pop. Apparently the metal recycler I bought them from got them from an old military base. I picked up one for myself and one for @Chux

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Then spent the day cleaning it up and moving shit around for the future.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Blue tape marks is where the welding table will go.

That locker also filled up quickly.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I also picked up a manual hub diff for an experiment I want to play with.

Wife and I took the new to us Osprey Poco for a rip for a part of the AT.

Also rode in torrential downpours with @JLink @MattiveAmerican and @Wheelspinner and had the DRZ die on me a bunch. Seems like the spark plug boot was not sealing based on what I found when I got home.
