Yeah after seeing the cutting Brett needed to do to run the clocked NWF cases it is coming higher on the list. It's one thing to need to cut, but trying to keep the interior looking factoryish is also important to me. It seems like with a 1" I would only need to cut an additional hole in the center a little more under the cup holders. If only I could afford that sick setup @Fernando has that the guy made for him lol.

Looking good Mike. Few weeks out, still enough time to order any other items that you might find while replacing stuff. Rausch is coming up soon. Got my own project I'm glad I found before we go. I'll have pics soon.

As for the crawlbox, best way is to cut enough room for the crawl box to wiggle around the body without hitting anything when mounted, then you build an access panel to get to and to help recontour the cab floor so that all vinyl/carpet/console fits without looking like anything changed.

The inspection plate has to come off in order to get the trans off. That plate will get snagged on the flywheel and the trans will not drop out, I wrestled with my trans for over an hour slamming it back and forth all over under the truck, and it was because my dumbass forgot to take that plate off.

It's funny the first time you take the trans out it's like a multi day job, the last time I dropped mine it was out in under an hour LOL!!

Sorry for the slow reply on this one, was out exploring WY for the last week. And shucks, now that I'm home, I just want to go back again.

As for the difficulty of the work - I did mention in the story (I believe), that Zane said we'd get the job done in an evening. Turns out, it took four of us a full 12-hour day, hahaha! I wouldn't call it difficult skill-wise, but it's tedious and takes a long time, for sure! Glad to see you tackling it, as it seems easily up your alley!

 for pics of the issue you found. I really think with a BL it won't take much to hide what's needed for the crawl box. Especially since there is a decent amount of space under the cup holders (that I just stuffed with seat heater wiring :frusty:)

Thanks! I know my mom was worried when I started on the street at 19, I feel I would worry the same about my son.

Haha I did see that in the "story". I have to be in at like 8ish hours now in the spurts I work in.

Got everything separated last night, the old pilot bearing out, and the new one seated.

The bike lift has been sketchy to say the least:

Going to borrow a trans jack for reinstall from a friend.

Video of how I pulled the pilot bearing here:

No bread or grease for me!

@slander I think I read your Marlin kit came with a chinese pilot bearing? Mine came with a japanese nachi that actually seemed good still. I swapped it with a japanese NSK.

@Speedytech7 says the clutch is still in decent shape so it's going back in, I really feel like the bearings went way too early.

It was done in an evening wasn't it? That evening had a 12hr day before it but it was good quality work that led to being finished at the proper time "evening"

Yup Chinese. I have an OEM one in there now. I didn't read back very far, but why did you pull everything apart?

Wow that sounds awful, mine just sounds like a floor sweeping noise. But I hate my stock clutch anyway so it's gonna go when the turbo goes on. Hopefully it doesn't throw a fit beforehand

Yeah it just ain't worth risking anymore, it's not the standard noise and I'm supposed to go wheel some pretty technical shit at the end of the month which will require a lot of clutch work so it had to be dealt with. The project is long and exhausting but there is something kinda cool about being able to pull the transmission myself and getting better at memorizing my truck.

So I expressed to my friends that the dirt bike jack simply won't cut it to reinstall the transmission myself and that I might go buy a proper transmission jack. My buddy @MattiveAmerican offered me to use his 2k lb one he got from HF that he hasn't even taken out of the box yet.

    Holy crap what a lifesaver.

First I had to transfer the transmission from one jack to another. @Reh5108 gave me this idea and it worked fucking tits. Basically suspend the transmission off the frame, or in my case the sliders so I don't have to worry about snaking past wiring and fuel lines.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

After a bunch of finagling I got it secured to the new jack and was even able to get it low enough to sneak it out from the bottom of the truck.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

After it was out I swapped out the bad bearing. Old one was a Nachi, and new one is also a Nachi, hope this one has better luck. But to be fair, I have had this transmission submerged a lot in the past 8 years this clutch has been in there.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkpLJlD7Jyg

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Also @turbodb @Speedytech7 @Digiratus how the FUCK did ya'll get this bolt out? I couldn't get near it with the transmission bolted up, and I was going to get at it from inside the cab as I lowered the transmission down a little, but the clip undid itself as I was trying to get the ratchet on and I called it a win and moved on.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Oh and what I always thought was a leak due to my cousins shop splitting the transmission at the wrong spot originally, turned out to be a breather hose that split. I have that silicone intake kit sitting in the garage waiting to go in the engine and some fit there so looks like I'll have a blue blinged out breather hose when this goes back in.
