A foot to the left and I wasn't getting anywhere but then I found the sweet spot.

@Squeaky Penguin did you say you made it up this open before?

So Sunday we bang your skid out quick and go play?

Sorry to clog your thread Mike!

No. I've always had a rear locker. No idea if I had to use it there or not. I took a very different line though:

No worries! All good info here. Usually it's just me babbling in my own thoughts anyway. Is this a trail that might be open on the way back from RT? or covered in snow by then?

Covered in snow most likely. As most of the CO trails will be.

Possibly up for wheeling Sunday - depends on how long the skid takes.

This is another reason why i like the ARB/Harrop over the OEM elocker. Instant engagement. I never lock mine until its needed. Instantly locks. Try it again..go right over. unlock it.

A lot of the factory elockers take a bit to engage so that isn't really an option so people will lock it just before the obstacle.

Not a bad way to do it..just different.

I don't have a front locker so can't say about using it more then the rear. But considering what it does to your steering..that isn't always the best option in some situations. But I can see it being super helpful vs the rear.

I think this part of the trail will be open. I think the whole trail was open in October when I tried running it the 1st time. There was a Jeep broken in the rock garden near the end of the trail so we decided to turn around. It's right off 70. The exit before I get off on 40 to go to Winter Park if you're heading west. If you are still planning on crashing at my place I could meet you there and we could run it then head to my place.

Is the elocker a pain to get to engage/disengage? I've never had experience with one.

My ADD seems to connect right up so my front locks instantly. It is sometimes a little slow to disengage though.

I usually forget to engage my compressor when I hit the trail so first time I need the rear I have to wait. Not like this is a big deal.

If you want to just finish building the whole damn thing for me I'm not going to stop you.

Make the outer edges at 45° rather than 90°

My ARB front didn't unlock right away a couple time. Had to go back and forth to get it to unlock.

The elocker isn't really that bad IMO. It's a rare occasion where it doesn't lock/unlock within a few feet. If you need it in the middle of an obstacle, that would usually mean one tire is spinning, and then it will lock up right away.

You know your build is TW big time if it has equal amounts of BS as build. :p

I'd be down! As long as I don't break anything before RT. :p Unless we hit it on the way home? I know I will appreciate some trails after the long drive there though.

What Brett said. Also I find that rarely used e-lockers have an even harder time. I use mine every month or so to keep it fresh.

I agree. Anytime I had an issue mid obstacle it locked right up, and I always did it pre-emptively on harder ledges. I think that will be the only habit I need to break on slick rock. I'll be interested to see what the front locker might be like and potential quirks that may come with it.

So I did some quick prototyping on my switch situation. Ideally I can mount the paranoid panel right to my CB. It's already in there super tight, and can even beef up the mounts holding it on as well. The only downside is that it would block the speaker which I am okay with, I can get an external speaker then which I have been wanting to get and mount on the pillar behind my head.

@cynicalrider i installed my locker specifically for Moab before I went and honestly the only time i used it was crossing the golden crack. The traction out there really is something else. Off camber stuff were used to that wouldmsend is into a tree or slide down hill is like Velcro out there.

Did some work with @Sub-Zero yesterday thanks to his welding skills. I may not be able to weld but I can cut holes into my truck and grind like a mofo. :p

    E062E6FA-86D5-4A22-BF09-D8542EECD7A1_f6e1006cc56fc6c64685b257d18169d36a398a79.jpg

I had really bad rust in the cubbies in the back of the cab. Apparently under the cab there are gussets for the body but there are pockets where salt and water can get trapped in, hence the rust. This is what I found originally.

    1375D60F-42A8-407A-8CCA-B5F0BBC36A9F_9868d849d87299a2f1f0d31e1a52f63e950f22cb.jpg

So we were going to just cut the body skin but the entire gusset was fucked. I cut it all out to try to get rid of all of the rust. We decided 3/16 plate can be used to bring strength back to the gusset. We were going to skin it with 20 ga afterwards but Ryan sealed it all up really nicely so we decided it wasn't necessary.

Next I'll prime and seam seal it all just in case.

The other thing we did was my spindle gussets. We took out the outer seals from the bearings and threw everything on the grill and let it heat up to 500 degrees. I'm sure this fucked the inner seal and burned the grease out of the bearings but I have fresh sets of everything waiting to go in.

    They came out great!

We then preheated the grill again and put the spindles back on and turned the heat off. They cooled slowly inside the grill.

I rounded one of my bolt heads on the dust shield so we sacrificed one of my 12mm's to get it out. It worked awesome.

    E1540CFE-6463-473C-894C-D863940CCFE5_56a874c891ea147b979a4df16cfbdd887bedc9e5.jpg

It broke free and then we cut the end of the wrench off and it spun right out.
