    Thanks, Rob!

That's exactly what I noticed the other day. I'll check your build.

This is something I need to do. It's most noticeable for me offroad.

Yeah I still need to do this. I hate the steering column rattle offroad. Maybe I can get someone to bring a welder when I have my dash apart for my switches.

I think I need to seriously consider budgeting for the 'welder mod'. I hate having to rely on someone else to do that kind of work, especially in this case. And after watching Brett do his entire frame and shock job, I really want to do that myself as well. After lots of practice, of course.

It's a big investment, but I couldn't be where I'm at in my build without it.

    Exactly.

That's good to hear, because your build is definitely one of my motivators. Thanks for chiming in.

Don't cheap out either. The way I see it a good welder is a long-term investment. Get more than you think you'll need.

    Definitely.

I know what Jake runs, and I pinged Alex (@capturecolorado) since I really respect his work. My inclination is to go MIG first with gas and then get some basic fab tools like a chop saw, a 7" grinder, etc. Any other suggestions?

Sorry for the thread jack, Mike!

I'd get a pair of 4.5" grinders before a 7". I have one with a cut off wheel and one with a flap disk at all time. Buy disks in bulk.

MIG is the way to go for what we do, I think Alex runs flux core which I wouldn't recommend.

I bought the 210 MP because I thought multi process was cool. In a year I've run like 4 stick electrodes and still haven't bought the TIG kit.

It is definitely very nice having your own welder. Even just for small things like mounting brackets and such. A vice and clamps are nice if you don't already have them.

    :der:

    hell to fuck no

    6'' all freaking damn man.

Also don't cheap out on grinders...just suck it up and get a Dewalt. (2 is super baller to have..but..fine with 1, you'll get good at changing the heads fast).

Agree..MIG is the way to go with Gas. get a 175amper one MINIMUM. And no matter what...run it at 220v. Seriously, 120 sucks ass.

This is definitely on my list. I need to wire up a 220 in the garage first though. Oh and find money for a welder. :p

Agree on the 4.5" not a 6 or 7. I've done almost all my work with a 4.5" and even then I save my tiny wheels for tighter spaces. If anything is needed smaller I break the dremel out. But I don't think I have ever been in a situation where I wished I had a bigger grinder. Maybe if I start fucking around with square or round tube that would be the case but I feel a chop saw would cover most of that.

Did some work yesterday. Got the external CB speaker mounted. They had little phillips head screws to use to mount this thing. I was like fuck that, especially for something near my head.

The speaker cable was a smidge too short, had to buy an extension this morning. 10 ft cord my ass. I do like that it also has a headphone jack too though.

Also mounted my temporary wiring solution until I can do a nice bussman next year. Figure this panel will be good for the compressor since it pulls a max of 9 amps under maximum load.

I discussed it in the what did you do today thread, but will also post it here. The way my wiring is currently setup I have straight runs to the OEM panel, my tool box aux, alternator, and starter on my positive terminal. The way the OEM panel is being powered is through the original outgoing wire at the bottom of the panel. There is currently nothing on the post in the OEM panel, so my theory was that if I use that post, I can power my aux panel. Well that was no bueno. The alternator was shorting and getting hot causing the belt to squeal like a mother fucker. I have no idea why. I pulled that hot off the post and hooked it directly to the battery and it was fine.

    7CA06975-09AC-4F7E-B824-B01F43222427_b70579da63ab56773032d0345ceb16f9cfbaf8c2.jpg

This is how it is now, straight to the battery. The short really has me freaked out, afraid I somehow damaged something or messed up the alternator. Nothing shows signs of that but still worried.

I also started working on mounting my paranoid panel to the CB. I took the center dash apart, took the CB apart and worked on a mounting solution. This should be plenty strong.

Looks like the speaker wouldn't get entirely blocked by panel, but oh well, the aux speaker is already in lol.

Since I got the side panel shit done, I was able to reinstall the back wall. I left the jump seats out though, they were useless IMO and took up space.

@Star-Lord @Blackdawg so started the truck again and belt started squealing again. Alternator was def getting hot again too. I ripped everything off the battery and am going to go back, pull the new cable and fuse panel off, and see what happens. I thought it was shorting on itself cause I saw the cable was touching the back of the alternator but I pulled it off and all the plastic shielding and shrink tube was still all in perfect condition. Could the alternator just be fucked already? This shit has me extremely frustrated. If I pull the new stuff off and it still squeals and gets hot, I'll pull the alternator off to get tested.
