    Thank's guys!

Burned in the front gas tank x-member, ground the really bad welds and started painting the gas tank area for reinstallation.

Also took care of the exhaust problem with this temporary solution for now:

Got the new fuel filter swapped last night. For all I know this was original with 235k on it. It def has at least 85k on it from me owning it.

Started the shackle swap this morning. Got stopped at this issue.

For some reason the sleeves got pushed outwards. Ordered a ball joint kit from eastwood, will try to press the sleeves back into place. In the mean time sprayed it with magic mix to loosen it up.

While I am waiting for that to come in, I''ll work on getting the gas tank back in permanently.

Good progress. My guess is that the longer shackles were the cause for the sleeve being pushed out. Just a guess tho.

Two pieces of plate, c clamp and some heat won't get it back in?

I tried a c clamp but it was taking a lot of work to move it. I was going to try heat now that I had it soaking a bit too. Might give it another go tomorrow morning for the fuck of it. Would make me feel better getting that done before vacation just to get the truck rollable again.

Got the gas tank in hopefully for the last time. Got all the wires and hoses reconnected. Nothing was even stretched really.

This shows how the mount got relocated inside the frame. This let's me use off the shelf replacement straps if the new one ever fails.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Everything is looking good half painted.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Here is the tank back in. I did not take into account putting padding back on the strap so it was tight, but I guess that's okay.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Here you can see tank clearances and exhaust clearances at the cab:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I did bend the cabs pinch weld ever so slightly. It's got at least a 3/8" gap all around and if it does somehow rub, it will only push the pinch weld more now.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I flipped the e-brake line holder to lower it since the tank mount got raised.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

And finally, the reason for all the work...

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I wish I took before photos. If any of you can throw up a photo of your current gas tank hanging down, I'd appreciate it.

Thank's Carter! You made me even more stoked about my results lol.

Thank's dude! I am really happy with it so far. Next up is shocks once I get the shackle thing figured out. I will burn in the back x-member before I take it on the road too. I'll end up with a back x-member like @jubei put in, a x-member for the gas tank carrier over the winter, and a shock x-member. Solid.

It’s a little less impressive when the skids on. The skid fought me the whole way too.

But if I am hitting the tank/frame at that point I’ll be well into the drive shaft too.

They have 10% off July 3-4. I’m very tempted.

I was gonna say, you may be needing a new drive shaft if you ever hit the tank again

Yup, have had it since Christmas lol. I had to cut it for the strap to fit but I will be welding that back together in a few minutes.

Good thing I carry a spare.

Frame plates? Those are going to rust terribly with those letter cutouts
