Been busy every day working on shit, little by little. Having a baby definitely decreases your garage time you are used to and things span over a farrrr longer period lol.

First up is an update on the rack. It's painted and reinstalled on the truck along with the spare tire mount.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I also caulked the inside of the rails to really try to keep any water from seeping in.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Which sadly hides a bunch of the prettier welds but whatever. Then I got the soft top back on.

Very much looking forward to dry fire wood when I go camping this weekend.

Next up was trying to get the bike ready for riding season. I had a couple mods I wanted to do, remove the big mirror that always gets smashed up offroad, remove the rekluse autoclutch, and install an RSC clutch lever.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

    The rekluse:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Obvs much more complex than a regular clutch.

    Standard clutch pack back in:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I've never done a clutch on a bike before, but it's stupid easy, even with the complexity of removing the Rekluse.

Installed the RSC, moved the starter button to the clutch side (this lets me twist the throttle easier while holding the clutch in if the carb floods) and installed a bike mirror:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

This safety wire tool is tits, used it to secure the mirror:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Last up was adding another support bar to my rack so that I can bolt down the tail bag. A couple quick welds and some paint and the bag is much more secure (i had it strapped to the rack last season and it ripped off on the stitching)

    Should hold up better now.

Oh and random sticks of steel you have lying around make great kid corrals.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Only project left on the bike now is to install a rad cage I bought last year. It's lower priority for me though. Next truck projects will likely be installing the airbags I have lying around and getting the bed wiring/controls installed again.

Look up the doubletake trail mirrors. Similar to what you have on there.

Those safety wire pliers are sweet. I use mine a lot on the bikes

Yeah the mirror @Wheelspinner recommended based on this video.

    https://youtu.be/rA6iKlj5Bps

At $12 it can't be beat. Lots of adjustability too which I like. And yeah the pliers make me wanna safety wire the grips since they aren't. Fun and useful tool to add to the garage for sure.

I just use spray paint or hairdspray on the grips. Worked well for standard grips

Got my first solid rip of the year in.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Really pushed myself in the local single track, it kicked my ass but it felt great learning clutch control again.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Also test the new USWE and mounting the InReach to it.

After that it was time to prep for some camping. I wanted to do a VT camp/snowboard trip last year with @Rockbaron1 and @Chux and was packed and ready to go after I got back from Hawaii. But when we got back everything was locking down/shutting down cause of the Rona and we never got to. So Pat and I decided to give it another go at Gore since he found good free camping locally.

I really enjoyed the new functionality of the canvas top, I can quickly and easily open the sides up completely in order to load gear/wood/ etc.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I got up there earlier in the day to try to explore some other camp sites that were a bit more snowed in the week prior when Pat was exploring. I got stuck on street pressure but with some airing down and minor digging I got right out and then bashed all the way through.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

It was pouring and windy so when I got to the campsite and saw there were two fire pits people have been using (one under the rock and one next to the table) I chose the one that would shield the fire from the rain.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

The site was sick, the big rock was definitely added to the experience. I got rained on till about 8PM and then it turned to snow.

[IMG]IMG_5393 by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]IMG_5399 by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Played with the camera but the rain definitely fucked a bunch of my shots.

[IMG]IMG_5412 by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I was hoping this one would be perfect but Pat showed up as I was taking this and decided to say fuck it to try to pursue another shot.

[IMG]IMG_5420 by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Woke up to a dusting the next day but temps weren't terrible.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Gore was sick, but lots of closed trails and was a slush fest. Def need to come back in prime season.

Awesome pictures. We took a ride down old route 28 Saturday evening and saw a whole family of the biggest beavers I've ever seen. I wanna try one of those camp sites this summer, looks like good swimming. Also there is an island in the middle of the lake. When we were there the week before the lake was still frozen enough you could walk out to it.

Dude it's been a game changer for side access. I remember picking your brain when we did the Kokopelli on your softopper and how the sides roll up for side access, but I always didn't like the fact that I wouldn't be able to like load a hard case from the side if I wanted to. This definitely has been giving me best of both worlds.

Did you get the truck and trailer through both snow drifts too? Those sites definitely look awesome for summer camping.

Why did you remove the rekluse clutch? It’s my understanding that they can be used just like a normal clutch, except you can’t stall out.. I was playing with the idea of throwing one on my ttr125

You can use them as a normal clutch for normal shifting, and should really. The problem is when you try to get technical with the clutch. Trying to drop the clutch to pop a wheelie at a stand still, the bike bogged and died. Or in a situation where you can drop the clutch and bounce the seat to get extra grip to go over an obstacle it would die or just spin. @Wheelspinner was showing me a technique where if you are stuck behind a rock/log under the back tire, you can drop the clutch and bounce the bike to get up and over. The auto clutch would either bog and die or if I tried to let it engage normally and bounce it, it would just dig into the ground. One time it even made a nasty/scary metal scraping sound on one attempt.

Yeah needing to remember to blip the throttle to get engine breaking downhill offroad was tough to get used to. Lot's of times I would be going down a rocky hill and just riding my brakes wondering why the hell I am picking up speed at a ridic rate before I was like duh...

Rekluse clutch is great for motocross where if you drop the bike having to get it started again can cost valuable seconds, or if you are old/weak/suffer from arthritis or some kind of hand related ailment and you have a difficult time using a clutch but still want to ride it’s a great thing to have. For technical woods riding or “enduro” type riding they do more harm than good.

Do you know where the wire from the fuse box goes? Was poking around yesterday on the truck and found that it’s been cut for some time and I have no clue where it goes to

So stock configuration had two wires in a series. One wire came from the + terminal and into the fuse box. The second wire came from the fuse box and went to the back of the stock alternator. Do you have a straight run going from the + to the alternator? If so that's why you have a wire that's going no where. (Assuming you are referring to a big hot wire lol)

So I think I found out where it goes, looking at some old posts/write ups it goes to the + terminal. I’ve got 2 coming from the fuse box

    image.jpg

This one comes from the bottom, then I have the one on the bolt inside the fuse box (it currently goes no where) Upon looking at my positive terminal it looks like the one that goes no where should go to the terminal.

    image.jpg

    image.jpg

It must’ve come loose and just ripped the wire a bit. Gonna look more into it but I think this is it
