On this day, 62 years ago, many brave young men, brothers, fathers, women and kin gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms on the beaches of Normandy. Operation Neptune was the largest single unified allied assault ever, and ultimately led to the defeat of the Third Reich one year later.

    Lest we forget.

    RIP and thank you.

A good day to contribute to DAV, Wounded Warrior or Folds of Honor.

First ones to penetrate the sea wall defenses and secure a beach head were the 1st Battalion Royal Winnipeg Rifles. 110 men; 17 survived.

    Merci, grand-père.
