A few additions to make me feel cool.
The reason it takes so long to remove and is fastened so well is due to it being attached to the front of an airbag that deploys somewhere in the ballpark of 200MPH. Not sure glueing the projectile back into place is a great idea.

Sort of a thread revival. The chrome is coming off of mine, so it looks like I'll be doing this at some point in the near future.

I have some Pyrite Mica touch up paint, so I suppose I'll try that first. If that isn't the ticket, I'll go for a flat black.

Or you could grab one of these

These go right over the OEM one. No fuss.

since the thread just got revised (lol)... since I’m doing all my sound-deadening right now and my interior is all a part... I decided (yes my ADD and OCD kicked in laying hours of Kilmat) to match my lower Shifter Tray with my custom Steering Wheel paint job. So when I install the upper cover you’ll just see a hint of red behind the cover (and it ties in the steering wheel too)

silly, but why not and it’s gonna look cool ,, good for at least 7 BHP too

Those are nice, but no price and they are 2012+. Mine is a 2011. They may already have a 05-11 version, but I didn't see one.

Will be interested to see how that holds up over time and how it looks when it is all put back together.

Also interested on your thoughts about the difference of the sound deadener on the floorboard. I wanted to do that, but got talked out of it after reading multiple people saying that the floor is thick enough that it doesn't make that big of a difference.

Cowboy - absolutely do the sound-deadening (I know we’re off the thread, sorry). But yes, a must do!!!

I’d say the best way to quickly summarize/describe the benefits of adding sound-deadening is: my Taco went from a sounding like a tinny noisy truck to a calm peaceful German sedan over night. It’s crazy quiet in there.

The “Funniest” part of me deciding to sound-deaden my floors/cab all started with me simply wanting to install a vinyl flooring kit to replace our carpets (beach guy; lots of sand & dirt), which like so many of our Taco mods, leads down that deep never ending rabbit hole.

Even my pretty much stock stereo sounds like added high end speakers and an amp.

Doors are a must as well. It’s crazy how much road noise comes through the doors and floor. And “NO”, our Taco floors are not thick at all: maybe an 1/8 of an inch (other than stress and mounting areas). So much road and mechanical drive line noise comes right through the floor. I honestly had no idea how much noise creeps in and overwhelms our interior until I sound proofed.
Note: I’m also adding thermal wood flooring foam on top of the Kilmat, then the regular wool pad. So it’s gonna be extra quite and comfortable.

did I mention it actually helps keep the heat out, and the AC in?

for a double endorsement: I just ordered more KILMAT to do the ceiling as well.

Back to the steering wheel and shifter. Before I painted the plate, I double checked moving the shifter through all the gears, fast and slow; the shifter never hits the sides, so I’d say it’s gonna hold up quite well. The only wear would come from them cleaning days.

But again, I think it really ties in the custom steering wheel emblem; giving her a “special edition” factory look.

I've sound deadened the back wall and all 4 doors. If I continue down the rabbit hole, it'll be roof next. I was talked out of doing the floors, but you might have just talked me into it.

My apologies, I always thought they were for all 2nd gens. Another option is Jimmyrigged88 makes some pretty sweet emblems too. His shop is on etsy. I bought one a while ago and never looked back.

    20200922_184704.jpg

Buy nevertheless, painting them looks pretty sweet too and cost affective. Half of my interior is repainted :D

Cowboy , I’m loving the peace n quite so much (it’s almost like I’m in a Vacuum chamber),, Rabbit Hole continues for sure:
Ceiling is next; just waiting on my Amazon order to show up.

side note for if and when ya do the floor: once I was happy with every inch covered with my KILMAT, I went with good old construction wood flooring padding (sound & thermal foil) from Home Depot. Grabbed a big can of 3m and basically cut and glued it over the KILMAT. Ended up doing 2 layers. It’s a lot cheaper $$ than let’s say official car padding.
Gives a nice cushion under my Wool padding (wanted extra padding mostly do to I’m switching out my Taco carpet to a vinyl flooring Kit).. and I like the idea of knowing I have that much more sound-deadening under me after all the hard work of removing everything to do the floors with sound-deadening.

Steering wheel repaint is complete and loving for a few months now.

now I’m thinking about going after the two center AC/Heater vents and the Rings around my Instruments... it’s so minor, but has driven me small kind crazy that everything in the cab interior is black or dark gray,, but on those two Items Toyota said: let’s add an off Silver that won’t match anything else that’s in this truck,, oh, lol

Looks like you've created a projectile should the airbag deploy. There's a reason there are so many points of attachment for the logo.
