So I have seen a lot of guys install d-rings on the bed of their trucks, and wanted to do the same. Unfortunately after a days worth or running around looking for those particular d ring style, I had the bright idea of doing what the pics show. Tools needed:
Torch, razor blade, pliers and a big nail or bolt of appropriate size. Materials needed: strap and maybe plain d rings.
Grab razor w pliers and heat it up, then cut the strap just by applying pressure, this will seal the ends then fold in half, heat your nail/bolt up and make a hole. Let cool and install underneath your preferred bolt. Washer use is up to you, I am testing them w/out.IMG_4515.jpgIMG_4513.jpgIMG_4512.jpg

Not a bad idea, but i would have used thicker/heavier strapping for this.

I don't disagree with you guys but like I said I'll be testing them this week as I'll be driving cross country with a bed full boxes and I'll use those for my anchor points. Will see!

Should be fine for cargo nets and items that dont need to be excessively ratcheted down. I will probably do something similar to your idea but using seatbelt or something of the like from the local pick n pull yard. Also a quick stitch on the ends would help for strength with a washer on the bolt.

Absolutely, the possibilities are endless. Ones skill and capabilities of making "shit" are the only limiting factors.

dont judge me... but my sewing machine gets used alot... by me. Good for velcro backing on patches etc, and fixing ripped pants etc. Also used it a couple times on my tent fly. And now on some seatbelt tiedown anchors thanks to you. I always thought sewing was for women etc. But the know how and means deffinetly come in handy.

Make the hole with a cheap soldering iron. I'm doing it for camping gear.

I used 1" nylon webbing for quick tie down points too. Folded both ends to make the ends four layers thick instead of two, punched a hole, and installed a brass grommet. Then used male threaded knobs to attach them to t-slot nuts in the rails. Should stand up to as much strain as the rails tolerate.
