Mine have been in an open bed in mainly open air exposed to ocean fog (10mi away from the ocean in socal). No issues. They are somewhat hidden under an OEM bed mat.

Either way. OP.... Dodge Sprinter D rings is what you need. unless you live in a salt state, the right torx bit and a proper sized ratchet should break them free no probs.

tricky thing about them is, they stay stuck in position more than OEM ones.
So if you put cargo on top of them, it sticks them down. AKA into the hole, if you have the OEM anti-slip bed mat, with holes drilled in it with a hole saw where the hooks are.

Which is a deep recess. As stuck as they are, it's not possible to pull them up by hand.
Change of plans? Want to use your rings now?
Gotta go inside the truck and find something like a flathead screwdriver or multi-tool, to pry those rings up so you can hook onto them...
I wouldn't use a key you already have in your hand because that could damage it

    still better than nothing

I cheated here, did the d rings after my frame replacement. As Toyota had put new bolts in my bed...... easy as pie.

I haven’t had any problems lifting mine up. The problem with the original ones is that they don’t sit flat which makes it harder to slide stuff into the bed of the truck.

Concerned about body roll, or concerned the D-rings will rip out?

Yeah, PB blaster as much as possible before starting. And use the loosen - then tighten - then reloosen method to break up the rust.

If you jump straight to the impact gun theres a small chance that the mounts on the frame will twist if super rusty.

Rolling. The FRC bed is pretty damn tough.

Really didn't feel bad at all. Got 2500+ miles with the camper in the bed now, no scary moments yet. Thought I might need a sway bar in the rear, but it's been handling great. My buddy that actually works at Scout was surprised how well it handled offroad when he rode along with me. Just felt like offroading a truck, didn't really notice the camper.

I did the Dodge Sprinter D-rings to bed bolts. Very easy but my truck was new. I cut a piece of 1/2" plywood to fit bed and around D-rings. Tied a piece of 1/8" braided cord around each ring to pull up when stuck down. Plywood is good when I need to slide a piece of equipment around, rubber bed mat on top of plywood when I don't. Works for me.

Second the PB Blaster or other penetrating oil. I would do a week of daily applications on an older truck...
