D Rings Mounted to Trifold??

I have an Extang Encore tri fold hard tonneau cover.

The thought crossed my mind about installing 2-4 smaller d rings on the cover to haul light camping items.

Dont know if this was ever done before. Anybody?

 

I would think you could secure them just as well using the straps to run from bed cleats, under the cover, over the gear and back.

I would prefer not to drill into the tonneau.
