Prayers and thoughts to you and your family. Grandpa is Grandpa, and even though she is only 4, the main thing is that he can still hug kiss her and be her grandpa. I am very close with my father and I can only imagine that this is a difficult thing to go through. It is great that you are making the trip to see him. Make sure you make the most of the time you have with him. Good luck to you and your family.

I'm very sorry to hea that man, that's a hard situation. your daughter needs to see her grandpa though, that's very important. I never had the chance to meet either of my grandfathers and that is one of the top two things in my life i wish i could have done. If you're really that worried about her being impacted by the sight of no legs, just put some blankets on him and she won't notice, but i can almost guarantee that she'll be more interested in her grandpa, than his legs. best of luck to you man. I hope all goes well. you have my prayers.

    An update:

Family made the trip last week and visited Dad in the nursing home. First visit was short, Dad was very sleepy, so we just let him stay in bed and rest.

Day 2: He was being fed lunch (baked fish & coleslaw) - it looked nasty. We brought him some homemade biscuits and fried bologna. He those really well. My wife took our daughter out of the room, and the nurses got him up, dressed and in his wheelchair. I rolled him out to the courtyard, and we visited for ~15 min. By then Dad was tired, so I rooled him back in and helped him in bed.

My 4 yo daughter never noticed or never said anything about his legs.

Dad had a new roommate. A 39 yo guy that had an allergic reaction to fish fried in peanut oil. He lost his airway and has pretty bad brain damage. He has 2 daughters - 4 & 6. The fish fry was a company picnic. Poor guy, was healthy, productive, good job, wife, & kids - then goes to a fish fry and will never be the same again. - And I thought my Dad was a sad case.

Again, thanks for all the prayers, kind words, and support.
