    And?

People like this piss me off. If you didn't want a trailer hitch through your car, you should have been paying attention :)

I have one of these guys, I don't need to tow, it's a step, recovery point/tow anchor and helps with people parking behind me in the city...

I always remove mine after done towing for following reasons:
    1. People walking by get hit including myself and my family members.
    2. I don't like carrying extra weight even a pound more than necessary.
    3. Looks pointless when driving with a ball hitch in the back and not towing anything.

I use my leatherman pliers to tighten it. The soft metal doesn't come loose. I got the Bow Shackles at Home Depot for 7 dollars a piece.

Typical whining from a self centered snow flake. Causes an accident and blames his troubles from it on someone else. I'm surprised he stopped short of recommending truck drivers tape pillows onto their bumpers.

I use frog lube and coat most of my exposed metals for further corrosion protection. I even put it into the lock cylinder on the locking hitch pin. Hitch pin as the solex style lock and a water resistant cover also. Frog lube is manufactured for weapons "protection".

Semi trailer bumpers were a big problem for a long time. That's not a joke...

    This^^^.

It only takes one or two good hits and I'm ready to throw it in the lake.

I store mine in the garage when I'm not using it.

There's no real deterrent to keep people from hitting you, but for $60 a Beaver Step will sure make them regret it.

I tow often enough that it's left on all the time. I'm way too lazy to take it off between times.
Although no longer there, I lived in CA for 30 years and kept a hitch on my '05 Taco and never knew it wasn't legal. Also kept something hanging from my rearview mirror, which I think is also illegal. Man, I could have done hard time!

Does anyone know for certain if leaving a beaver step or trailer hitch in is illegal in Washington state?

That's EXACTLY what I want to see if someone hits me after riding my ass. That way they can think about not being a jackass the whole time they are getting towed off.

Classic example of the progressive "blame something/someone else" mindset. Sure I ran into the guy, but his vehicle shouldn't have damaged my beloved car.... how about.. when I take my eyes off the road, I run the risk of totaling my car. No, his horrible trailer hitch MUST be what is wrong with the whole situation.

Oh, and I leave mine in specifically to protect my bumper in a parking lot.

HOLY HELL that guy with the crybaby webpage is here in Austin, TX.

Also the dipshit claims to be a writer, despite clearly not knowing when to use "ensure" or "insure" in a sentence. Classic.

He conveniently fails to mention that when you hit someone from behind, it's your fault, at least here in Texas. How about thinking "Gee, maybe I shouldn't ride an F-250s ass in my Ford Escort, or at least make sure I'm paying attention." Perhaps he wants some french cries with that Whaaaaaaaaamy burger?

Yeah he spends a whole sentence saying sure he shouldn't have hit the truck and then goes on a tirade about the damage a hitch caused. I mean I feel for him, as no one wants to have to deal with a totaled vehicle, but quit whining when you caused the wreck.

Oh I take my hitch out because I like my shins how they are. Not to mention I'm sure my wife and kid would run into it at some point, and we all loose in that situation.

I keep a shackle in mine all the time, i tighten it enough so it wont wiggle free. When i lived in Houston i was worried about the shackle being stolen, but in the little town i live in now im not as concerned, so i just leave it in all the time.
