I know I know I know, this will sound like a dumb question blah blah blah. But please don't be a keyboard warrior and try to give me some advice, especially if you have the same leaf springs im looking at!

I'm thinking about getting the old man emu Dakar leaf pack for a 2.75 lift in the rear and better payload and drivability etc but because of that amount of lift do I need to also replace the rear struts? I have 2017 TRD OR struts on my 2nd gen giving me a 1in lift on the front end and no additional lift in the back... so my back end will end up sitting 2.75in over my front end (i do plan to get an additional inch of lift on the front end one day in the near future).

here are the leaf springs I'm talking about:

    Thanks!

I just looked those up and they provide 4in of lift? I'm not tryna get that high? Unless the leaf springs keep them down?

Like @whatstcp said, it would be a good idea. The Bilsteins he quoted would do you well.

You could also possibly find a set of used shocks in the BST area, etc that give you a little more bang for your buck.

I got these Kings for a pretty good deal last summer off one of the local FB groups.

Keep in mind that those are some seriously stiff springs. I run a medium configuration, and I will say that it is a workhorse spring (which is what I was after).
Doubt you will see 2.75 except maybe at the bumper. The "medium" configuration (6 leaf) sits about 1.5 inch above factory, so with all 7 it will probably put you about 2 inches up.

And there are precisely 0 "struts" on a Tacoma.
A strut is that thing on cheaper cars that combines the FRONT shock absorber, spring, and upper control arm. Some people mistake the front coil-over shock for a strut, but it isn't -- there is an upper control arm instead.

I was thinking the medium might be the way to go with the 5160s because I don't need that much lift and the most I'll have in my bed regularly is between 2 and 500lbs for work. And i dont want the ride to be insanely stiff like people have mentioned about those springs

I have dakars in the back with king 2.5s and love them. Like previously stated, the ride is pretty rough with an empty bed. The leaf pack is made to accommodate extra weight. Stock shocks aren't going to work well with them so recommend buying a longer shock, either fox/king/icon/ads whatever or bilsteins work well too

I have the dakar heavies in my truck and routinely roll around with 250# in the bed just to keep the kidney shots to a minimum. Upside is if you get the heavies, you can always take a leaf out to go down to the mediums and can scale up if it isn't enough. Price is almost the same for the 2 sets so it doesn't hurt anything.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that. Definitely BUY the heavy, but if you want to run medium, remove the 3rd from the top and keep it as a spare.

And also, I am still running factory rear shocks (2 years since springs). You get a little more abrupt of a knock when the shock reaches full extension than you get with the factory springs, but other than that, working fine. So if you decide to go with medium, you can run it without changing the shocks. This can be helpful if you don't want to spend that much money all at once -- the shocks are easy to change with the wheels still on, and even without jacking the truck up.

With the mediums, you get a nice cooshy ride when carrying a yard of limestone in the bed ;)

Fuck yeah thanks! I have 5100s in my garage from the previous owner and now I'm wondering if I should have left those on the front because theyre better than the 3rd gen OR front shocks. On the other hand I dont know how long the previous owner had them and if he abused them...
