I have recently replaced the stock tacoma leaf springs with Dakar leafs and am topping out my shocks on full droop way too often. Even small speed bumps are extending my shocks to their limit. I have also taken the shocks off and flexed out the suspension. Without the shocks I can get a few more inches of flex out of the leafs, so it's clear that the shocks are limiting droop. I have the bilstein 5100's with the drivers side): Ext – 21.6” / Col – 13.9”, and the passenger side): Ext- 22.6” / Col –14.7 ”.

I've seen a few solutions to this issue and was wondering what the best way to go would be, and if anyone else has experience with this issue? I've seen a few people use 10'' shocks and extend their bumps. I've also read on one forum that you could run the dakars with 10'' shocks and no bumps because the overloads will keep the shocks from bottoming. IMO this seems like a really bad idea. Lastly, I've seen people relocate their shocks. This would help me get more flex out of the leafs, but I don't think it would help with the topping out issue I'm having.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I snapped a shock mount with 10" shocks and 4" rubber bump stops. 8.5 mentioned above should be Max w/ stock location and stock bumps stops with Dakars. Might get away with 9" on passenger side.

I just got done flexing out my dakars.

Driver side: ext. 25.5in, col. 16 in
Pass side: ext. 25 in, col. 16.5 in

I'll be going with a 5 inch bump stop and custom length 10" travel kings.
I was also looking at going with bilstein 5100 series part #33-104645
Ext. 25.89 in, col. 15.9 in.

Either way you go, make sure you have the proper size bump stops.

I'm thinking this is the route I will be going. Are you removing the stock bump stop and using a 5'' bump stop, or just putting another bump stop where the stock bump hits the frame like in the picture?

That would probably work, what's in the pic. That aftermarket bump is 4.5 in tall I believe, and another 2.5 in with the stock. I'm removing the stock bump and replacing it with custom bracket the wheelers superbump will sit on. Just so you know, if you go with the full droop of the dakars, you will need an extended brake line. And if you have the rear locker, you will need to watch the actuator harness.
