Is anyone familiar with swapping out to the Dakota lithium lipo4 135AH Dual Purpose Battery? I have limited space and want to prevent needing a separate house battery. I just got a 12v fridge freezer and need a way to keep constant power to the unit when the truck is off. I have an OTT tune so I can just increase the charging voltage to 14.4 in the systems computer. The recommended charge for longevity is 70 amps. What does the stock 2018 pro alternator output? Would I need a bigger alternator to reduce strain. No accessory lights just bright ass lumenex led headlights. Is it best to run a dedicated wire from the block for continuous power or tap into a fuse box? The cooler has a removable fuse, do I need an inline fuse?
    Fridge/freezer specs in included image
I know I have a lot of questions in this post so thank you in advance for any insight you can lend

Why not just get a Jackery or Bluetti? A lot less trouble and expense, and more versatile.

No idea about your questions but I just started working on a Duramax van that has that battery, well two of them, there's another one under the van. Yesterday I extended the battery cables for the primary battery.

Sorry I'm of no help. I never heard of this brand battery before but damn they are expensive! $1200 ea! I had no idea.

I honestly care less about the cost than having the convenience of a single battery system with these specs and an 11yr warranty. I'm from the mindset "it's cheaper and more convenient to do it once the right way and forget about it"

You might want to check out this video. I found it rather interesting. The conclusion is that using a standard automotive alternator to charge a lithium battery could cause the alternator to overheat and burn out. Doesn't mean it can't be done, you just have to have the right equipment to do it.

Correct. It's not the battery itself that would be the problem, it's the OEM alternator. It would need to be swapped out for something similar to what's in the video. The OP did say that money was no object. :)

Doing it once the right way is a dual battery setup with an automatic charging relay

Has anyone actually researched this specific battery before replying to this post? These batteries are specially made for this and made to charge from your alternator. Please don't give me your unwarranted and fear based OPINIONS

I do not have the dakota battery but it looks like a good setup. Looking through the specs I did not see any major red flags and it has built in battery monitoring so you should be pretty protected. 3rd gen alternator size is 130 amp so you should be fine on that end.

Is there any reason why you are not going with a Northstar/X2 power 27f AGM? Thats what I and many others on this site have and they seem to do the job well.

You are new here so you may not realize it yet, but when you post and ask for opinions you are going to get them regardless of what you perceive their value to be. If you ask, be ready to get all kinds of answers. If that bothers you, you might want to reconsider asking. FWIW, you asked about the alternator, I gave you some info on it. Do with it as you will.

I liked your video on the alternator but the batteries used in it are completely different so it doesn't really apply to my question

Because these new batteries seem to be better in every way. Larger capacity, discharges to lower percentage, recharges faster, less weight. Why are you all using the northstar/x2 agm excluding the price difference. I just really don't want to have to find a place to put a house battery with the limited space in my build. More power in a smaller package. Be honest, am I missing something?

LiFePo lithium replacement batteries really are superior in almost every way. One drawback if you live in a very cold climate is that they don't like being charged at below-freezing temperatures. Apparently Dakota Lithium has started incorporating special internal heating units within the batteries to try to address this issue.

Exactly my point. I found the company after reading an article about doing this a while back. Now I'm just searching for specifics and anyone with experience on this really cool new system. I know there will be haters but saying my shit will blow up and catch on fire was just ignorant, lol

I also want to add that I am not in any way condemning agm batteries or the way anyone else chooses to outfit their rig.im hoping this battery will be enough to keep me powered up off grid but if I ever find I need more power, I'll just add another lithium to the system. I like to be prepared and would prefer to have more than I need than not enough

No not really, I just wanted to make sure you knew a potential other option that would have a similar function as a dual purpose start/house battery in 1. The weight difference will be a great thing. The standard batteries that come in these trucks can tear the sheet metal if you offroad alot.
