Haven't made any moves yet .... I'm still not feeling good about which road to take yet.
There has to be a good simple fix for tires and gears.
I like the idea of changing the gear or sensor to match the tire/gear combo ?

The way I look at it is the DD unit is a trick the computer device that's changable by the user, which leaves margin for error ?

There are many company's and products out there that are un-known until you find the guy that deals with this type of problem on a daily basis , and knows straight up on the way to go.

Case in point : I had my ARB locker and gears installed at this little shop out in the boonies. The guys been in buisness for 25 years , never advertised , just word of mouth. He's heavy into Fords & Chevys , and racing.
I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination , but read up on and read the instructions on the ARB . I was surprised how much this guy knew about Tacomas and ARB s.. I used my book read knowledge when talking to him about my project. (Back-Lash , spacers , sealing surfaces , etc. ) in hopes he wouldn't take any short cuts. : ) He wound up sending me pics via cell of the install progress and settings !
Anyway .... I did the compressor and ran the air line .... I wanted a SS Braided air line ... I looked and looked "On-Line" and found many available lines .... After telling him what I wanted to do and where I was going to get it , he said F that ... Went into his office , pulled out a catalog and ordered something for me far better and cheaper than anything I found. It was a SS braided , but built better internally and had options for fittings ( 90*) that I didn't find!
He had things all wrapped up perfectly ..and every time I see him now he asks me " was that on-line" ? and Laughs !

So I think the best answer to this quandary is still out there ..... ?
I'm going to ask him next time I see him ..... Soon

Yeah my dealer in WNC told me it is possible with the generation after mine. Maybe look into the speedo gear swap. Idk about your year but with mine it's much cheaper and you don't have to dig through a wiring harness

    I have a 2013 manual 6 speed.
I have been spending @ 2 hours now researching this.
I really like the gear change , but want to find the correct gear , preferably dealer sanctioned/approved/ Recomended .

I went from 31x10.50s to 255/85s and simply swapped the speedo gear. I have a 2wd so they gears are different. I started with a 17 tooth and switch to a 16. I go the gear assembly from that list I posted earlier in the thread. It was meant for a 4runner but it seems that almost all are interchangeable as long as you get the correct 4wd, electronic, etc. It cost $15 and looked almost exactly the same as my original gear. Even the shaft was the same. If the shaft is not the same you can pull the gear off and put it on your existing one.

X10... alot easier and can be re -calibrated again with little headache with the push of a button in the event you ever change tire size or gear ratio.

The second gen Tacoma does not use the same gear-driven sensor as the 1st gen Tacoma. A little different of a beast there. Plus different transmission trucks work differently for the speedometer.

I installed a truspeed recalibrator about 8 yrs ago and like the adjustability & it was easy to install too!
I don't know where I got mine but here is ONE link:

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLF-33002/

My speedo, compared with my GPS is accurate to about 1mph and I can adjust it for tire size up or down in diameter.

Dakota Digital has great customer service...
Well... at least when I purchased mine.

I was on the phone with them for hours...
and on more then one occasion.

Sadly... my first unit was found to be defective...
and no matter what settings I used...
could not get it to work properly.

Dakota sent me a replacement after assisting
me with running a few fault tests.

The testing concluded the unit was defective.

    In receiving the replacement...
    Things worked as they should...
and I was only on the phone with DD for 15 mins.

My current unit has been reliable/accurate...
and has never been of issue since installed.

I never needed mess with the mechanical speedo gear.
    There is no need.

I would buy again from Dakota Digital
just because of the mfg'r support I received.
