I just found this post after costing out the price of a rental silverado from Anchorage. Anybody want a ridealong? I'll split the gas.

EDIT: Just saw the date stamp on these posts :bananadead:

I'm hoping to make it in 2019. This year is getting crammed already :goingcrazy:

I'll probably be driving the Dalton this summer along with the Denali highway. I've driven the Dalton several times for work, but never in my personal rig, and never been able to spend some time hiking between Coldfoot and Galbraith Lake.

Thinking I'll drive the Parks Highway up to Cantwell, cut across the Denali highway to Paxson, then North on the Richardson to Fairbanks. Make a run up to Coldfoot and camp out at Marion Camp ground and Galbraith and do some hiking. Sprint up to Deadhorse to just say my truck has been there, then probably make a push back down to Anchorage. Figure this route, with making camp whenever/where ever I want, shouldn't take more than 7-10 days.

A lot of locals that moose hunt along the Dalton around the Yukon in September rent trucks/vans from U-Haul to avoid damaging their own vehicles. It won't be as luxurious as higher model rental, but it sure is cheaper.

Currently in the planning stages of an extended road trip from San Diego, CA to Dead Horse, Alaska. Are there any other "must read" threads, besides this one? looking to read as much as I can before building the itinerary.
    Thanks
