What’s up everyone, hit a deer a few days ago and my insurance company just completed their assessment on damages. I hit the deer going roughly 45, dead on, air bags did not deploy, as soon as I was able too, seconds later, I pulled over and turned the engine off. The front end was hissing, constant-like, from the moment I turned the engine off to 45 minutes later when I was picked up from the scene. Tow truck driver couldn’t get to it until the next day and I wasn’t about to drive it home with the hissing I described. Here are some photos of the front end along with the insurance assessment. They don’t mention the radiator or AC as needing attention, even with the radiator being dented in and being covered in refrigerant oil, I think that’s what the green stuff is…, leaking out.
(my antifreeze is the OEM pink stuff) I wasn’t able to open the hood and take internal photos. It was jammed. I feel like they’re going cheap on the repairs as well as not even addressing the radiator and AC refrigerant/oil issues. Any advice on how to proceed with my insurance would be greatly appreciated! Claims is closed until Monday, so I’m forced to sit on my hands until then.
    Thanks in advance, appreciate y’all!
Im thinking of having a steel bumper installed as well, maybe this one.

Things I've learned selling auto parts:

    1. Insurance adjusters are largely d-u-m DUMB. No offense if there are good ones and one of them is here, but lawdy, does the whole field get a bonus for doing their job poorly or something? Can't count the number of times I've heard from a body shop something like "well, insurance has the list down for this [insert not cheap part] as $12" or "the adjuster gave me this part number, try [insert part number for not the right part for the car, that's also not even for the car in question]" Not even joking, had a body shop once with a broken cast aluminum ($$$$) control arm, and insurance had given him the part number & price for a control arm bushing, that wasn't even for that car (brushing aside the issue that, ya know, replacing a bushing in a snapped control arm will help absolutely nothing)

Am I missing something, or is there not even a hood or labor to fix your hood on there? That estimate looks like it was slapped together in about 10 minutes from a single picture.

I would double that estimate, if its cash its amazing, but for insurance I want the paint blended and it done right.

Our prices in my city are also higher, but that seems crazy low to me.

They always low ball you on the initial assessment hoping you’ll agree to the pay out. Once the auto body sends them an accurate quote they will pay up.

What are y’all’s thoughts on the dented radiator and the green fluid?

Condensor has refridgerant dye in it, pretty standard. Odd its not in the quote for something so obvious.

Again, expect quote to double. Easily.

Exactly. Hissing was the refrigerant bleeding out. Adjuster had to be clueless and needs to get a different job.

under $5k? I think you are in good shape. my 2019 accident with a impaired driver cost $3.5k, drivers side fender and quarter panel, support bracing, replaced bumper, paint, driver's side headlight.

Have an independent body shop give you an estimate including hood, paint, refrigerant etc. Then show that to your agent outlining the differences. Do not sign or agree to their estimate until this is resolved. In my experience, if the body shop is any good, they will fix everything and the insurance will agree to the charges of the body shop. Be prepared to wait a long time for repairs. They are all having trouble getting parts and are really backed up.

Hahahaa. When you hit a moose at 45mph the car is completely totaled and you’re lucky to walk away without being injured. I once saw a guy in an Audi convertible get killed by a moose when he hit it.

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
Double the estimate then add 50%.
Then exactly what Otterstuff said, in post #10.
Once all is done and you are happy with repairs, find another insurance company.

    All stock, baby!
I don’t know if the estimation process varies from state to state, but when I went through this recently with my wife’s car, at two of the places the estimator explained to me that they can only write the estimate for what they can see. They don’t even put the vehicle on the lift to do that, which seems kind of nuts to me, but he said it’s pretty much expected they will be coming back with additional parts and what have you once they get into it. The insurance company takes that into consideration when deciding whether to repair or total the vehicle at the outset.

With respect to the estimate you shared, they didn’t even go that far. The obvious A/C damage, the hood… that was shoddy work. As someone else suggested, getting an independent estimate is a great idea. But in any case, you are far from the possibility of the vehicle being totaled, so in the end it may not matter too much because they will repair everything even if it’s not on that initial estimate.
