Identical damage has occurred twice in the past three weeks. I got it repaired the first time through insurance but am now a little dumbfounded on what could be causing this. I know that its most likely someone backing out of a parking spot next to me but the damage is a little unique in the fact that it has left a cut in the fender both times. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen any damages like this before so I can know what to look out for on other cars in my neighborhood.

    Thanks!

I also thought that may be a possibility- couldn't think of anyone that would do that at all. Plus, if someone wanted to cause damage like that, I'd think they'd just slash the tire.

Or drag their key down the whole side of the truck. Strange damage for sure, but I find it hard to believe that someone would go to the trouble to do just that. It looks cut with a knife, but I bet that would take some serious effort.

My only other thought is that the flare was cut in the previous incident, the body shop glued it back together, some car/truck bumped into it, and the previous cut split apart.

Thanks! Luckily I had a warranty on the previous repair so I'm going to take it back in tomorrow and see if that'll be covered.

Someone who parks next to you sucks at driving.

Time for armor. I was hit in a parking lot a few weeks after I installed my bumper and whoever hit me didn't leave a note but they did leave a bunch of their paint on my bumper and pieces of their broken turn signal/marker light in the parking lot.

It’s odd that it’s sharp enough to cut through the flare, which would take a fair amount of force, but not hard enough to buckle or damage the surrounding box side.

is it parked in a spot with regular foot traffic along side it, or is this happening in random parking lots?

I live in a condo building and work from home so it could really only be happening here. Pretty standard parking lot really not a ton of foot traffic around it.

In that case, I would take a look at who is parking around you. Definitely not a small car doing the damage. Seems to high and too sharp.

Part of the rationale to get sliders was for the parking lot rash.

I would guess it was from someone's hitch, specifically the flat plate the ball mounts into. OR, the bollards at the liquor store drive through.....oh, probably not, there's no yellow paint.

Liquor store drive through? Really? For when you’re too drunk to walk but want more booze?

    Yep.
If it's man made, there should be marks on the sheet metal behind the flair. Even a 2" knife would hit the body.

Were there any marks on the body the 1st time? How about this time?

Edit: meh, looking closer, there are additional marks that don't meet the man made theory.

Don’t park by other cars. I’m the guy that walks 50yards to the door at Lowe’s so I can double park in no mans land.

    OME and worth every penny.
It's a ball mount for a trailer hitch. Just have to play detective now to every truck in the neighborhood.

    Got a trench coat?

A shop isn't going to repair something under warranty that's been damaged again. They warranty their repair/paint work and not what happens in parking lots.

Is that another 'related' scuff about a foot to a foot and a half to the upper left of the cut? ...and if so, does that in any way help to make better sense of it?
