Here is the deal, just bought my 05 prerunner 2.7 2wd 2weeks ago...and it has the infamous airbag light and the horn does not work. From all of the searching it looks like the clock spring is the problem. Apparently this is a dealer item only? My question to you guys is has anyone fixed their current clock spring? Maybe by soldering some wires, using some bubble-gum, plastidip or something

Bump...not even sure what "bump" means but I have seen it on some other threads and people will "bump" back or move up the thread, so "BUMP!" =-P

check ebay, you can probably find one off a x-runner for when people swap out the steering wheels.

Ebay is def option #2, but I really want to fix it myself with some guidance from the experts on TW...and yes I will literally use plastidip on the housing of the clock-spring to protect it from any damage! ;)

It's not a difficult job. Go get a factory service manual or download one. There are aftermarket clock springs. Take your time and you will be fine. I have an airbag light as well and the code I pulled is my clock spring. I plan to do a write up with pics when I change it.

check with the dealer. Might still be under warranty. It is a safety issue.
My uncle came over with similiar issues on his old Dodge Caravan and we found out that it was covered under a recall. With 180k on the odometer, the dealer fixed it free.

Tried the friendly guy and the assh#le method at ever dealer and it is not covered under warranty :(

I would love to get a link to an aftermarket one that is very budget friendly :D

Most electronics can be fixed to some extent...if I dissect this little bastard can you guys be able to see if its just a loose wire, broken trace, etc

I dont care much about the light as I do the function of the airbag and horn. I need a horn to pass inspection and honk at assh#les that cant drive and an airbag when those assh#les hit me after I honked several times at them!

$221.19 is better than dealer price, but still a good chunk of change. I might just go aftermarket with an airhorn system!
