Wash, claybar, polish, wax. If you're uncomfortable doing it yourself, I'm sure you could find a local shop to do it. Since you're in the south, make sure it's cool and in the shade when you do it. You don't want to polish or wax a black truck that's been sitting in the sun. Also, if you have one, a leaf blower is a great way to dry off a vehicle without getting any scratches on it.

try liquid glass its an acrylic wax they use on show cars. They sell it at auto zone its a little expensive but the can last a long time. I did about 3 coats after every wash and you can't see the scratches. It will make your black truck look great.

also its not like normal wax that you have to buff off. Its a liquid so you wipe on it will film over and it wipes off easily leaving a nice finish.

A few suggestions above to use clay bar - clay bar will not do anything for scratches - it is to remove contaminants embedded in or on the surface. Not a bad idea to use it every now-and-then, but will not do anything for the scratches or swirl marks.
Buffing or polishing compound will probably work, but keep in mind that every time you use that you take a little bit of your clear coat off (or surface of the base coat if you don't have clear coat, which someone said some Toyota colors like white and black don't have clear coat - not sure about that)

Best would be like suggested, to get used to it since it will just happen again, but I understand the desire to keep it shiny, so try polishing (which by-the-way is different than waxing)

Black paint on a car or truck is a full time job. It is also the most fun and rewarding color to work on. It shows every defect but when polished and sealed reflects like a mirror.

I've owned several black vehicles and you have to adopt the mentality of "if it looks good from 20 feet away I'm happy." Don't focus on all the little defects, look at the bigger picture.

I once put a bunch of swirls in my black WRX by mistake. It was certainly a gut wrenching experience. The key is to see it as easy and actually fun to repair! You just gotta do the homework and give it a shot.

I got my start on youtube and autogeek.net. It started as a challenge to fix my swirled up black car and now it is a fun hobby that I really enjoy!

Remember, it was an accident, these things happen and use it as a learning opportunity!! :itllbuffout:

Thanks for the reassuring words. I'll get through it and now I know better. Yes YouTube is a good tool saw a review on buffing pads the other day (yellow white orange).

You always lose money on trades. But the truck I have now has 15,000 less mi on it. It also came with a oem "tacoma" bed mat, and it appears that the bed has never been used. There is literally not a scratch in the darn thing. now im not second guessing myself every day on the color. The money part of it sucks, but now I have a truck that I love in every way, will work to pay off, and will keep until it cant drive anymore.

    nothing cool
Unless its a huge door ding or deep scratch, swirl makes don't bother me. Love having my black truck. Looks dirty most of the time. It's definitely not a color for OCD people.
