LOL, did you forget to read? I saw the shit come loose from the rig and was able to evade contact with the larger sections of whatever it was.

Its hard... fix it bad weld it up for next to nothing and have a welded on axle and potential for a piece of foreign metal that might be inside the housing loosely eventually get caught up in a bearing or gear and warranty not cover it cause it was welded on... or file the claim, get it fixed right and take the dirty car fax report of a brand new truck. (carafe matters to me, I usually trade ever year or 2)

I guess you missed the pics that show the chuck of foreign metal that is still Stuck in the hole in the tube????

I have a zero deductible on Comp. Even collision is only $500. I am sure the housing alone will be twice that.

I like the way you think... F' the prep. Slap a weld on that shit and drive on. If it leak from poor prep so be it.

Holy shit. I think my IQ dropped worse than going to Wal-Mart after reading most the posts on the last 2 pages.

To the others suggesting this. READ... This is not a warranty claim, This will be an insurance claim or a self repair. No manufacture period is going to warranty something against a Piece of Flying, bouncing chuck of solid metal. Just glad it didn't come thru into the cab of the truck. Axle housing is bad, but its just a slight financial hit.

I don't know if Toyota makes their own axles, I doubt they do. That being said whether they do or do not. There are very strict guidelines and specs that manufactures request during each batch of products made. A lot of manufactures request that one of units from each batch gets pulled, checked and tested to meet quality control. I would imagine every axles gets quality controlled checked just to make sure it meets Toyota specs.

So of the op took it to the dealer and Toyota ended up pulling a batch report on that axle and they had a few that had similar documented problems or concerns then they would launch an investigation. Unless multiple people have the same issue, nothing is going to be done. And even if a few came back but were damaged in ways that Toyota would deem not within normal operating conditions, even if they realized that they skimped out on the engineering and quality of the axle, they still wouldn't probably do anything. Unless mass hysteria breaks out like with the frames, and they step up to keep customers happy

Pretty sure he was referring to Wussiek2000's posts. Yours may be gold to those with the mentality of an idiot, like yourself. How did you ever manage to master the art of "log in". Astounding.

Believe it or not, some of the vehicles used by militaries across the globe have indy rears. The humvee is the first that comes to mind. However I've seen a link on TW for armored pickups for desert warfare that had indy rears. I was skeptical at first, but I guess they're Ok maybe :notsure:
