dangers of improperly connected tow strap

Every so often I hear about some idjet getting killed when the metal hook on his tow strap breaks and comes through the back window. Does anyone know how fast that metal hook is going, if say the metal breaks when you're jerking someone out of a mud hole.

 

dont use tow straps with metal hooks. use the ones with the looped ends that are sewed together. i have a set that are rated for 10,000lbs so i know that shit aint gonna break lol

 

x2, use a snatch strap.

 

Use this if you must cinch the end to something:

Then, it won't get so tight that you can't remove it.

a proper strap also shouldn't send the hook flying. when people use chain or cable, when those break it will send the metal flying pretty violently!

 

HAHAHAHAHAHA guilty as charged. Idiot with a strap...my bad The hook didnt break, it bent back when it was in the hitch and slipped out and punched the tailgate.

If a metal tow hook comes thru the back window and kills someone, does it really matter how fast it's traveling

Any way.... to answer your question.... Sounds like it's traveling just fast enough to kill someone.
