No problem! Just don't want you getting stuck out there without options.

I'm learning where to creep to find this stuff - you'll probably see me around :) Recently been hanging out around McKee - rough country in there

You got the meats? :bacon:

I get the feeling that the list is pretty much the same as for every location....

....high clearance, functioning 4x4, sliders, MT or aggressive ATs. Optional: skid plates, various forms of recovery (recovery strap at minimum. anything from shovel to high lift to winch), comms (either CB or HAM depending on the group). Variables depending on location: minimum tire size.

If camping, add tent and any other camp essentials. Food and water.

Things to leave at home: sourpuss attitude, tampons.

    Did I miss anything?

Follow the TN, OH, and KY threads.

I host a meet at Rush Off Road every August, usually, but I'm not sure what the timeline is for them to allow overnight shenanigans. So I'm holding off starting the thread.

Hahahaha i've got the camping thing down, my man but i really appreciate the tips. I've been doing this just over a year now so i'm starting to get the hang of the truck thing - camping i've always done. As of yesterday, i got the cbi covert bumper and a winch - starting to stack up nicely. I have a MT offroad 2016 with something like a 2 or 3" lift. Also have sliders

I'll keep my eyes out - thanks for the heads up

Yes, but it is all in the presentation.

If you're scared of getting the truck scratched, stay home. If you don't want to drive through anything liquid that is more than 2-3" deep, stay home. If you're only there for the gram, stay home.

Then you're good! Just show up and have a good time at the meets. Pickup a handheld CB and/or HAM. Technically you are supposed to be licensed to operate a HAM radio, but they are good to have for general communication and it is not illegal to use one without a license for listening purposes or broadcasting in an emergency situation. Think of it as a long range walkie talkie. I'd recommend both because the group you go with will always have a preference and you don't want to be left out.

I wouldn't recommend buying anything else for the truck until you find out that you need it.

Yeah i'm done for now except doing the OVtune when the MT releases.

Is there a list of "places to explore" or good low key camp sites?
I love using gaia and doing some carto out on the tracks - keeps me learning and on my toes. But always looking for some extra special spots!

I do carry a HAM, but i'm not licensed yet - that's on my todo list for this summer

We don't have a list per se, mostly OHV parks (pay to play). RRG is about the only remote place we go. There are maps out there for it too, a lot of it is on Google Maps even.
Look up the Zachariah 4WD Trail, DBBB, some of the infamous obstacles are marked on Maps too.

More or less anywhere in this area:

    Cool bean man, thanks.

I've done 1/2 of the DBBB, and the section of the KAT from slade to Livingston. I love the area there in between - right were you posted the picture. I've been using my maps to just explore forest service roads and even old county roads that disappear into nothing or public lands.
In tandom with Gaia, i use kylandforms.com to find some cool things to check out. Lots of caves in the area too

One thing i have not done is pay to play. I hate being near people - i do this to get away. Is being "on our own" in a pay to play park ever happen?

Sure it happens. You'll run into people on the trails, or they drive by your spot going to trails.

Has anyone heard of Coolidge-coombs rd up by cave run lake?

Not clear to me if it is private property or not.

Looks like 1274 there runs north and right into non-public lands

    upload_2020-5-20_12-23-17.jpg

It looks like it goes up to a peak or overlook there - i'd be interested to know what's up there and if we can get to the public lands.

additionally murder branch road runs closer along the lake west of this are, but i think i read it's closed

Yeah I actually think it's right off of murder branch, there looks to be a good spot for a (big) campsite up that way, but it gets close to the farm plot thats marked as steve combs land.
