So this just happened on Friday. Took the day off work and rented a car. The rental should have been for their cheapest vehicle on the lot. A smaller or mid size red sporty looking car. Next thing I know a guy is doing the walk around and then drives off the lot with the car. I asked the guy behind the rental counter if that was my vehicle that just drove off the lot. They responded no, we changed vehicles and we are quick washing your car now and will be ready soon. Ended up getting a 2017 GMC Yukon fully loaded with 6500 miles on it. Got the rate for the cheaper car and wouldn't have to put gas back in it when I was done. I got lucky as there was still 3/4 tank of gas left in the vehicle. Got to the dealership 3 hours away from home and worked out a deal for this used 2013 TRD OR with 60k miles on it.

Took a few pictures next to my 2003 Ford Ranger with 35" tires, 3" suspension lift and 3" body lift.

Still deciding what all to do. Contemplating selling the Ranger and putting that money into the Tacoma but have separation anxiety for getting rid of my beloved Ranger. This new purchase is all due to my wife and I expecting our first child in July.

I would really like to eventually do the following to the truck:
    • Remove the dents I found in the roof just after I got it home.
    • Fix some scratches in roof near rear brake light and side of bed so they don't become an issue in the future.
    • Get a sport hood and put some paint on the scoop to personalize it like my Ranger. Yes I know the scoop is fake.
    • De-chrome the truck with color match or black
    • Lift it at least 3". Not to much as it still needs to fit in the garage. (Ranger just clears by just over an inch)
    • Put at least 33" tires.
    • On board air with dual electric compressors and storage tank
    • Skid plate on the front and maybe some further back.
    • Winch on front
    • Dual battery setup
    • Lockable tailgate
    • Hard cover over bead so I can lock stuff in bed. (Bought with soft already on it)
Not sure what else I want to do after that.

What are your favorite cheap/affordable mods you have done?

I'd Ditch that Ranger and dump your money in the Tacoma. You'll be happier.

Yeah it is a tough call for keeping or selling the Ranger. I laugh about all the memories I have had in that truck every time I get in it.

I laugh at a story I just told my wife the other day. When my dad was still alive (passed away 4 months before my wife and I got married) we were up on Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan. Someone else broke down up there an needed some assistance. Code up there is to help someone out if you can because you never know when that someone in need will be you. I needed a shovel and tow strap behind the passenger seat. I hopped out and opened my dads door. Totally not thinking I swung the rear door open to get the tools, forgetting that my dad still had his seatbelt on. He got sucked back into his seat and was sat up real straight quickly. We both had a good laugh and just said: oops! :)

I am considering selling the Ranger even more after this past weekend. Driving home from church I got a hole in the rear driver side tire. With the truck being a month old I still haven't found good places to put everything I want to carry in the truck including a floor jack and air compressor. Thankfully I got home easily and was able to change the tire. Found out that the rims were stuck to the hub and I had to beat them off with a 2x4 and a 1lb dead blow. Got the tire fixed next day for free at the local tire place.

Now I am looking into the possibility of dual Viair 450C air compressors with a 2.5 or 5 gallon air tank somewhere on the truck for OBA. Any thoughts on this?

I have a small compresser with a 3 gallon tank . It over heats every so often ... id got with atleast a 5 gallon so you have enough air and look for a good compresser

There's quite a few people that run a pancake tank where the spare goes, but you would have to do something w your spare.

I am thinking of taking a wire brush or wire attachment on an air tool to remove the rust on the rear drums. Would it be recommended to paint them after? What would be recommended to paint them with?

As for the pancake tank. I have considered removing the spare tire from that location once I get larger tires. Considering the swing out rear bumper even though I think that will block the backup camera.

Was on a road trip this weekend and this happened. Any suggestions on how to put the gas door back on? I have the outside cover yet.
