Op, here's what losing a CV looks like, it's destroyed.

I’ll never understand why folks don’t use OEM parts…

I don't see how it's possible that the stub shafts are able to work their entire way out of the front diff/axle tube, especially on a stock height truck.

I had a half shaft pop out of the stub shaft (severely damaging both) while wheeling in 4Low, but that was because the PO installed the wrong axles on the truck before I owned it. I only found out when I went to replace them after the half shaft grenaded itself.

Because it can be cheaper for similar quality (sometimes better, although not typically with Toyota parts). As long as you have a good head on your shoulders, you can usually discern good quality parts vs. poor quality parts or at least understand or are comfortable with the level of risk you are assuming when using those parts.

Just starting though it. New shocks and struts, running 29 inch tires. Dog bench in the rear seat

So here is the photo of the new and old CV axles. The one on the right of course is the NAPA axle that came out of the differential on the passenger's side this time. The new axle was one the mechanic ordered so I am not sure who made it but apparently, he has had good luck with these. It does look longer to me. What say you.

^The inboard CV joint has some telescopic travel, so you have to physically compress the axle and measure at the shortest point.

The new axle is built with entirely non-OEM parts. The Napa axle inner joint is non-OEM also, judging by the absence of chisel notches.

Probably not cost effective, but man does it look like it'd save your knees and back. Its a creeper that transitions from flat to a chair and back. I spent like 2 minutes looking for a price and from my research, if it's not obvious, it's expensive. Human Hoist.
