Nice! I have the soft side of the verco placed on the side of the head unit to eliminate the wiggle. I can imagine it would be a PITA removing the hu aslo using the hook side lol.

Pulling the dash is super easy.

After about 20 minutes of trying different screws and bolts, I found these that worked seemingly perfectly. Idk if they’re the right type of screw and whatnot but they work. I drilled out the dimples on the brackets and now she’s good to go.AAF79087-E787-48C4-BA66-68717832699F.jpg3ECF61AA-1244-4D3B-9CAB-68E8B28FFFF3.jpg

Hey folks, I'm considering one of these for my truck and have a few questions.

    20210523_015218.jpg

I'm currently running an ATOTO android head unit and am pretty happy with it. But, it's showing its age in terms of speed, and the display is pretty dinky by modern standards. I think it's stuck on Android 6, maybe upgradable, but sketchy due to discontinued support. Plus on final install I apparently crossed the LF and RR wires so the front speaker channels play through the right front and rears, or in other words I ruined the stereo effect unless I turn my head 90 degrees to the right, which isn't recommended for driving. Of course thats an easy fix, but if I'm going to pull the whole dash to fix it, it would make a great opportunity to upgrade it as well.

So I apologize if these questions are already answered in the prior 40 pages, but...

    1. How does dimming work? Can I wire a signal from the dash illumination so that it dims with the headlights? This is stupid but also kind of important to me. If not, do you have to deal with navigating a settings menu to make the display visible?

    2. How is daylight brightness? Can it be seen with sunlight pouring through the windshield?

    3. Do old-school resistive steering wheel controls work? I have an '05, so no can bus or whatever. Just buttons that provide distinct resistances when pressed. They work great with my current setup. Can't find resistance range specs for the Dasiata.

    4. Have folks used it with external amps? Does it correctly actuate the blue wire (amp turn-on) signal line? I have external amps for all four channels plus an under-seat sub. I need them to turn off with the head unit or else it'll kill my battery between trips. (I have custom active crossovers that draw too much current unless turned off via the blue line.) Bonus points if it sequences the turn-off immediately; my current setup has a 3-4 second delay which gives an obnoxious thump from the sub every time I pull the key.

    5. Does anyone know the standby current draw on these units? Mine is less than 5 mA, but want to make sure I'm not signing up for a dead battery between trips.

    6. Has anyone run it with aprsdroid and/or RTL-SDR apps? Mine works but it's always an uphill battle for APRS. I'm using TNC/KISS over USB.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

    For my Dasaita PX6-
    1) There is an illumination lead for the radio. It does allow for a degree of dimming. However even at it's lowest setting it is still intrusive at night settings. I use the CarWebGuru launcher to develop a "night" screen that I swap to when I drive a great distance at night.

    2) Daylight contrast is very good. I've never had a problem reading it.

    3) I have a 2013 and ordered the CANBUS adapter on advice of vendor. I was able to get the SWC working both with CANBUS adapter and without. Right now I'm using it without the CANBUS adapter and it detects momentary and long press of all the SWC (VOLs don't have a long press).

    4) No amps yet, but I have an externally powered subwoofer that is on the project list. My plan is to use the power antenna lead to serve as the turn-on signal for the amp.

    5) Not sure. There are multiple power modes that can be selected for when the ignition is turned off. I've been able to leave the truck parked for a week without issue. One time was over the -1F temps here and it still started without issue.

    6) No experience.

If everything is setup correctly.. when you turn your head lights / running lights on, the HU will automatically dim and go into dark mode :)

Not quite. When I turn on the head lights (and even when I use the dash dial), there will be a noticeable level of dimming. However even the lowest level of dimming with any app or screen layout that has light colored elements to it will be distracting in total dark. There is not a connection between the illumination lead and the ability of the radio to shift to a pre-selected dark screen layout. It might be possible to use something like Tasker and trigger off of the time of day to do something similar. For me, the particular use case of long duration night time driving justified setting up a screen layout that fit that particular situation.

I guess the net of all this is that even at the lowest dimming level, the backlighting will show through markedly for any lighter color elements in whatever app/display you use at night.

Ya, I wish it would go darker but it won't. I've tried several apps over the years and nothing really worked. But let's be honest here, it's just a basic android tablet.

Honestly, I run dark mode everytime and it rarely bothers me. Even after long road trips. Here's some night/dark mode shots:

Finally snagged my Dasaita unit off Amazon. Should be here tomorrow. Waiting for an adapter before doing the install but hopefully it comes soon.

for the stock mic it won't works directly without something in between. somewhere on here, there is a kit that you can connect and link it. The stock one is an amplified mic so it won't work directly connecting it. I have just been using the one on the head unit and it seems to work for the most part.

Man the DVR stopped working when I downloaded the "update". It happened automatically. My HU is a Seicane. Anyone have a good HU DVR?

Try checking the XDA forums. They have a good technical group with access to the binaries for a lot of these devices.

Does anyone have their Dasaita hooked up to a second/house battery so it can be run at any time without running accessory power? Does it suck a lot of power? How do you shutdown/startup?

I went through customer service and they tried 3 different software installs. I even factory reset everything. Cam doesn't even power on now. I'll check out the forum. Seicane did pull the cam from their AliExpress page.

I had to put a claim in. I tried working w them for like 2 months. The problem is the software. They used uCar before. Now they tried 3 other things. Then they wanted me to send them $16 and they'd send a replacement. But I told them if the software is the issue, what's the point? Plus it wasn't payment for a DVR so I'd be SOL if it didn't work.

Ultimately AliExpress stepped in and gave me a full refund.

I loved the DVR before the software killed it.

Sorry I meant Seicane . That's really lame though.

So AliExpress gave you a full refund on the whole unit purchase? If so, are you considering coming to dark side? (Dasaita) Or moving on completely? There's a ton of newer models out there that I've been considering.

A "ton" is a bit of a exaggeration but I've seen quite a few new 10.1/10.2 android models popping up. Such as,

    Phoenix 13.3"

I have no idea what brand this one is: https://www.walmart.com/ip/For-2005...rror-Link-2005-2006-2/525030036?selected=true

    Boss Elite BE10ACP

Joying 10.1" (there's a thread on it some where on TW)

    Dasaita 10.2" Rotatable (my favorite)

These are just a few off the top of my head. Honestly though, I am extremely happy with what I have now. I probably won't change it out until android 9 is so obsolete that normal apps are no longer compatible.

I got a $34 refund for the DVR. The HU is great. Just gotta figure out the DVR.
