the OP sounds like a great kid. it's just a dash, and it can be fixed.

my stepdad set off a shotgun in my brother's truck. i got back in, and there was all this fuzz floating around in the inside. we didnt realize he blasted a hole in the floor till we got home. i laughed, and my brother didnt freak out. we got a friend to weld the hole, and we glued in a carpet patch. my stepdad just got diagnosed with lung cancer.. believe me, dont sweat the stupid stuff.

Yeah. I wouldn't kick dad's ass, considering my dad could still do some damage to me, and I'm not a little guy.

But I'd definitely steal dad's milk money to cover the repairs.

I'm willing to bet that that is primer on the dash and you just need to find something to get it clean. Hell my wife's 4 runner has had all kinds of crap on the dash at different times for the last 6 years and hers doesn't have any different color showing through it. Take a look in the light and find a cleaner that will get it off. Might try paint thinner but try it in an out of the way place first to make sure it doesn't discolor or eat the dash material.

Yeah primer doesn't scratch off easily. It tends to smear. If the dash is SOL, might as well try rubbing right in the center of that white spot with some paint thinner and see what happens. You know, just in case. I really have a hard time believing the dash is coated white vinyl. If that IS the case, then Toyota is the cheapest manufacturer on the planet.

And, take the dash out and paint it yourself- it won't be that big of an issue with Dad's help... and it will be a good learning experience (taking apart a dash). It's a pain in the ass, but really... it's kinda cool.

Try to clean it and then go from there. IMHO, if Dad messed it up then he needs to be the one who fixes it.

    ok quick.

quail hunting. we were on a friend's ranch in texas. my step dad is getting older, so hiking hills looking for quail is not gonna work. so basically, we drive down roads glassing for quail movement. one covey held tight. right when we pulled up in the duramax diesel, they flushed. my bro and i both hunt with over and unders, so we safely leave the shotguns broken opened. my stepdad..err, not so much. my brother stopped the truck and everyone piled out. i blasted a few birds, and we ran around the hills looking for stragglers. when we went back the truck, my stepdad was outside. we all just hopped back in. there was a fine "confetti" floating around. i asked out loud..and we ignored it. at home, my stepdad sheepishly mentions that his shotgun "may have gone off". duh! there was a 3 inch hole underneath the passenger front seat. clean hole thru sheetmetal. no blasts catylitics, no blasted wires, or fuel line. i laughed and called a welder friend.

now we make him unload. and we check. this man taught us about firearms. strange how times change. funny how my stepdad tried to play it off..it had to have rung his eardrums hard. i didnt even hear the shot. i was in the zone.

X infinity. I can only imagine the beating I would have got if the roles were switched.

See if you can find some vinyl spray paint that is a close match. If it looks like crap your no worse off.

I've done exactly the same thing before... white primered trim through my rear slider and resting on the dash, and it left white marks on the dash. Mine wasn't too bad -- I was able to wash most of the white off -- but there are still a few small marks that I wasn't able to get rid of. I have been able to live with it. I was thinking about going to an art supply shop and buying a marker of the same grey color as the dash and touching it up, but I haven't bothered.

Put a sticker over it, or install a USB port. Better, install one of those wireless chargers over it.

    or a sticker.

Had this problem. I bought FLAT BLACK PRIMER, masking tape and a foam brush. Taped the region in a rectangular shape of about 3"X4", applied the flat black primer with the 1$ foam brush, and let dry.

It is not perfect, but I can say that 99% of ppl that will look at my truck won't notice it, even if I wanted to sell it. sorry no pic right now.

I just picked up my 1st gen from the body shop this morning for something similar. They messed up my dash (either got a chemical on it or peeled the color off) while installing a new windshield. They paid for a dash specialist to come up from Colorado and he touched it up (a spot about 5" in diameter) with a dye he had, and it looks brand new. So there are people that specialize in it, but you have to find them. But I'm not sure how much it cost since they paid for it. Hope that helps. Don't replace your whole dash...

The primer on wood trim rubs off pretty easy. I'm willing to bet that's primer on the dash and not the dash rubbed through. I've carried a lot of trim like that in other vehicles and had the primer rub off. The grey and black plastic like the door panel or top of the dashboard is grey or black plastic, the metallic silver stuff like around the shifter and around the radio is painted plastic though.

Start with just a damp cloth or water and a mild detergent and see where you get. If it doesn't do anything you could try something like goo gone, it should take it off without harming the dash. If you jump right to replacing the dash or spray painting stuff in the truck you're crazy. Good luck with it.

dash is white under it's thin coat of paint, I'm pretty sure he will have to touch-up. Anyway, worth the try.
